Newsletter of the United Church of Primghar November, 2013- Volume 11

As many of you already know, I have recently resigned from my position as Church Administrative Ast. I have taken a position in New Ulm, Mn., as Director of an Assisted Living. I would like to thank Pastor Cory, the Pastor Parish Relations committee & the entire Congregation for all your support and good wishes I have received. I have enjoyed my work here and I will miss all of you. Thanks again Linda

Thankfulness Sometimes I wonder in the hustle and bustle of every day life, and the all out sprint to the Christmas season (as can be seen with stores having Christmas stuff out by the beginning of October) if we skip over Thanksgiving altogether. Sure we like to get together with family/friends, and have a big feast, maybe even watch some football, but even then sometimes planning and scheming is taking place on how to go after the best sales the next day (often called Black Friday). None of this is inherently bad or wrong, but when do we ever truly stop and give God thanks for all the blessings which we have received. How long do we stop and take time to truly be thankful? 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. ~Colossians 2:6-7 (TNIV) Pastor Cory

Lords Harvest: All in the Family of God

9:30am Silent Auction 10:00am Worship Bazaar & Baked Goods Following Worship 11:00am Lunch 1:00pm Silent Auction Ends 1:15pm Movie & Popcorn 1:15pm Live Auction Begins Auction: it has come to our attention that the auction has gone a little long the last couple of years. So we are are having a silent auction as part of the day. Then, the items that we would live auction would be items brought from our talents, such items could be anything from providing a soup a month, to a dinner hosting a number of guests with individuals able to buy one plate, two plates, etc., to being willing to detail someones car, anything that you could do for someone else. The possibilities are endless!

Prescription 1 Mission & Vision: We have completed our Day of Prayer, Repentance and Celebration, and our Day of Visioning. This past June and July our Committees evaluated every program they were responsible for in light of our mission and vision, and brainstormed ways in which each program could live out our mission and vision more effectively. We have all ready implemented some of their changes, and others are in process. For example, we have included more missions into our WWW, and have changed our closing time to be more worshipful. Another area where we have made some changes is our annual Lords Harvest Festival. Prescription 2 Passionate Purpose Driven Worship Experience: We are to claim both Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings as worship for all. As stated earlier we have changed our closing time on Wednesday evenings to be one of worship. For the remaining of this year Spiritual Concerns will be working with the rest of the points under this prescription. Prescription 3 Coordinated Care System: The Care Team was formed and they are working on a plan to incorporate everyone in the church. This will be unleashed in January of 2014. There will be more information to follow. Prescription 4 Structure: The Parish Council has been meeting and discussing this prescription in great detail. They are brining forth a proposal to the Annual Meeting for the United Church of Primghar to go to a Single Board. There would be 12 people on the board, with the intent that 1/3 would be between 20 and 40, 1/3 between 40 and 60, and 1/3 over the age of 55. Why are we proposing this change? To do a better job of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and we are able to do this by freeing people from meetings for more hands-on ministry. Please see a Parish Council member if you have questions. They are: Peter Eldridge, Clara Black, Beth Wittrock, Jane McDowell, Emily Waund, Ron Johansen, LaNan Eldridge, Jack Black, Brad McDowell, Bill Kersting and Pastor Cory. Prescription 5 Spiritual Formation: This team is still forming, but the hope would be to have something to implement beginning January 2014. WWW Christmas Program Belated 85th Birthday Party For Harriet Stevens Open House November 29th 1:00pm @ the Church Sunday, December 8th during regular worship service! If you are aware of someone in need of a pastoral call, please inform Pastor Cory at the office, 957-4960 or her cell 404788-4997. She would rather hear from multiple sources than from no one at all. In these times of privacy rights, hospitals and nursing homes may not divulge information relating to a resident or patient, so it is very important that members and/or their families let the Pastor know of all needs for pastoral care.
