LIFE PLACE LEARNING

Im going to learn how to make different types of Overall theme What is the overall theme? What are you going to bread and identify them as is a way of keeping a be working on? healthy diet, far from preservatives and chemicals, learning to be autonomous and saving money. For this, Im going to get external information (internet, books...), get information from my environment and take a course where I will have the first touch with different techniques and ingredients needed to make bread. After this, I will analyze the techniques and ingredients by making bread each week and I will put my experience into practice doing a workshop or session at school with children from infant or primary education, who will make their own bread. I will take pictures from the session as a proof of achieving the objectives set; only the hands or the backside of the children will appear in the photos to preserve their anonymity. One of the ways to achieve a more sustainable Justification of the project Why did you choose this project? Why do you world is making our own food, with this we will think it is relevant? save money and earn health. The bread is one of the most popular foods all over the world. It is very important in the diet of many people, offers many variations and can be healthy, the ingredients needed to make bread are only flour, water and yeast but in recent times we are used to buying ready-made bread that usually is frozen bread and full of preservatives and chemicals). As it is the one of the most consumed food, it is important for me to learn how to make it, is the only real way to know what it really takes to make bread and realize that is very easy to eat healthier. http://blogs.elpais.com/el-comidista/2012/03/elgran-timo-de-las-boutiques-del-pan.html Once I have learned making bread, I will use this knowledge at a school by doing a workshop or session with children. It is important that children start experimenting with food so they can see how using only flour, water and yeast the can make bread and realize of the chemical process made by the mix of the ingredients experiencing a scientific action, plus it can be very motivating for them as it is their own elaboration. They can learn to be selfsufficient in this aspect and learn to have healthy habits.

Define Objectives of Project What do you want to achieve with this project?

Learn to eat more healthily, making my own food, free of preservatives and chemicals. To learn how to make bread, as it is one of the most consumed food Identify and analyse the many variations that making bread offers by identifying and doing different types of bread, with different flours, cereals, yeast..., Create a motivating activity with children Show children that they can be selfsufficient by making their own bread Promote healthy habits among children. Do a workshop or session of making bread at school with children from infant or primary education. Learn specific vocabulary related to bread, food or cooking. Improve my English language command. Learn how to evaluate my learning process Learn to assess my technique

I will get information from internet, books, Decisions How are you going to make decisions? Which environment...Using the information I get, I have decided to brainstorm on it; this will be my first strategies will you use? contact with the topic. I will take a course of Which decisions will you make? making bread at a school of alternative cooking, where they use ecologic raw material, I have decided to enrol in that school because they offer the course directly related to my topic and the dates and the place to get the lessons are the most appropriate. (http://www.220grados.com/. There I will identify the techniques (making a sourdough, mixing ingredients, kneading, identifying the time to wait, baking...) and I will know the raw material needed for making bread I will get raw material at the school 220grados I will schedule some dates to start the process of making bread: on each date I will try to make a different type of bread on my own, using healthy raw material and analyzing the information and experience I have got from the course and the other sources of information already mentioned. I will specify a date for making the workshop with children with another teacher choosing the children I already work with so will agree with my workmate the space, time and materials needed. I will first ask the children if they are intolerant to

any ingredient needed (maybe, celiac) I will meticulously select the pictures and posts I will upload to the blog, choosing the ones that show my process

Emergencies/contingencies: What will you do if ... a member goes missing or is unresponsive? There is a problem with the resources? ...?

If the course is cancelled, I will get in touch with the teacher in order to know when the next course is and I will ask her for information about making bread. If I finish my raw material and I cant buy it at the moment, I will ask people close to me (parents, neighbours...) for it. If it is impossible to get it, I will buy it the next day. If my oven doesnt work, I will use another oven of my close environment (parents oven) If I cant carry out the workshop in the scheduled date for any contingency, I will agree another date with the teacher. If a child is intolerant to any ingredient needed to make bread (e.g. celiac) I will use ingredients specific for him/her (e.g. gluten free flour)

Week 10 (January 13-19) Strategies and Resources How are you going to achieve your aims? I will create the video

I will use internet ( http://irinaketaurunak.wordpress.com/

http://tequedasacenar.com/ http://madridtienemiga.wordpress.com/) and books (Pan casero. Iban Yarza) in order to get information of making bread (ingredients needed, steps to follow, techniques), this will be my first contact with the process of making my own bread I will speak with people of my close environment who make their own bread, I will ask them about the raw material I could use and the steps I should follow I will take a course called Pan en casa con masa madre. established as a goal initially?

In the blog I will explain what I have done during that week as this is a real proof of my learning process and to check the achievement of the objectives set. I will design two assessments; one for the people who try my bread and a self-assessment to evaluate and assess myself during the project. I will design and help filling an assessment template for the people who taste the bread to evaluate and assess my process and to get the feedback. If it is possible, I will make a bread to show and taste it

Decide on video and final presentation. Which resources are you going to use to create your final video? How and where are you going to upload it? How are you going to give your presentation? How will it be organized or structured?

I will create a video with the pictures made through the process. The video will have the following parts: First part: my own learning process where I include pictures of the ingredients, steps, final product (bread) with explanations. I will include a recipe of bread too. Second part: pictures and steps made in the workshop with children and me showing to make bread. Third part: assessment templates filled, guideline followed, blog`s link, information get from course, self assessment templates filled. I will use Windows movie maker to do this.
