We want to thank all that have been able to make it out to the FRG meetings. Weve been seeing some new faces and look forward to our family growing as more are able to attend. If you missed the past two meetings, you missed hearing from us, your ombudsmen! Kelly and I discussed what our roles are as your ombudsmen. Continue reading to see the handout we provided. We also heard from our Commanding Officer regarding the upcoming deployment. We hope to have updates regarding locations and dates in the weeks to come. If you havent attended an FRG meeting this homeport, make November the one you attend! There will be a pie contest with the first place winner receiving a TURKEY! With Thanksgiving a week later, nd rd this is an awesome prize to be won! (2 and 3 will receive gift cards) Remember, these meetings offer a ton of information as well as an opportunity to have questions answered in a relaxed setting. If you are able, please come!

Message from your Ombudsmen

Lesley Clayton and Kelly Farwell

Greetings Fearless Families!

Where has the time gone?!? We survived FTX and are well into fall with winter just around the corner. With each passing day we are drawing nearer to our historical final deployment and subsequent decommissioning of NMCB 74. In an effort to extend even more support to our Fearless Families, Kelly and I are excited to announce the set up of a Facebook ombudsmen profile (Nmcbseventyfour Ombudsmen)! (https://www.facebook.com/nmcbseventyfour.ombudsm en) We will continue to post updates and links on the FRG page, however, this will also provide a place to ask questions and seek information directly from us. In addition, this will allow our posting of updates, newsletters and resource links to appear in your newsfeed. We want this to be an opportunity for open dialogue however it must remain family friendly. Be aware, while this profile is set to private, DO NOT POST ANY SENSITIVE INFORMATION. ALL COMMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO REMOVAL. REMEMBER OPSEC!!!

October was fire safety and prevention month. If you havent already, this is a great time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms as well as work out and practice your home safety plan. Get your children involved and practice what you all should do in the event of a fire.

Domestic Violence Awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). The 2013 DVAM Navy theme is SILENCE HIDES VIOLENCE which speaks to the need to have everyone in our communities use their voices against domestic violence. This year, we aim at shining awareness on how abuse in relationships thrives in a culture of shame and silence. The theme will center on the impact of getting help for a victim of abuse, as well as the consequences of a victim and the community remaining silent in the face of this epidemic. The theme will address the question What does your silence cost, as we set to identify the cost (consequences) that victims, families and children pay when they are affected by abuse.
