More Jobs Seen With Growing Economy

Manila, Philippines --- There's hope for Filipino workers in the country. Acting Senate President Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada stressed this Thursday at the 2013 Awards for The Outstanding Workers of the Republic (TOWER Awards) at the historic landmark Manila Hotel, citing the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which continues to improve. Estrada saluted the country's outstanding and world-class Filipino workers but expressed hope that they need not go abroad for gainful employment. "I believe that we are not a nation that must be destined and condemned to supplying workers to other countries to support their economies," Estrada said in his speech. While the remittances of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been a major and critical factor in the growth of the Philippine economy, Estrada said he wished there will come a time that as the economy grows, the government would be able to provide jobs for workers here. "We must retain our workers here so that they will contribute to our economy in terms of building industries and manufacturing sectors, such that we can become suppliers of goods and finished products," added Estrada, who chairs the Senate Committee on Labor, Employment, and Human Resources Development. Estrada, however, is pleased to note the sustained demand of Filipino workers overseas, saying it is a clear indication of foreign countries' confidence in the abilities and work ethics of Filipino laborers. "The workers recognized today represent the best traits of our workers which have been in demand in many countries of the world," he said. According to Estrada, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) records show that deployment figures continued to rise with around 1.6 million workers deployed in 2011 or an increase by 14 percent from what was recorded in 2010. "I salute the awardees today for becoming role models for other workers, laborers, and employees. I hope that this award will not only motivate you in your work, but also inspire other workers to work hard and fulfill their duties and responsibilities with zeal and enthusiasm. I hope that your number will increase exponentially," he said addressing this year's batch of TOWER awardees. TOWER Awards is an annual nationwide search for the blue-collar workers and white-collar workers, occupying non-supervisory positions, who have demonstrated exemplary performance in their field of endeavors. Its more fun in the Philippines with more jobs, income

Posted by Online on May 26th, 2013 // Comments off Beyond the success of the slogan, Its more fun in the Philippines, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is aware of the importance of capitalizing on the spotlight now shining on the Philippines. The guiding principle and vision of the government for the DOT is that tourism is not just about the number of foreigners visiting our country, but rather the jobs and businesses we create for the Filipino people. Tourism is all about the welfare of the Filipino people.

The country can well absorb the increasing influx of tourists with 12,000 hotel rooms set for construction next year and ongoing airport expansions. Most importantly, there are jobs generated in each local tourist destination. The DOT has just received $7M for training of local guides and other tourism-related jobs. It is also finalizing details for the recognition of local citizens in promoting tourist destinations. The Its more fun in the Philippines slogan is all about the participation of Filipinos, especially the youth. The DOT has already surpassed its original target of 35 million tourists by 2016. In 2011 alone, 37 million foreign and domestic tourists traveled the country, with an estimate total of tourism revenues to have already exceeded R1 Trillion. This is how tourism is contributing to the greater agenda of Inclusive Growth. We congratulate the government of the Republic of the Philippines headed by H.E., President Benigno S. Aquino III and the Department of Tourism headed by its Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez Jr., in their continuing efforts to encourage, promote, and develop tourism as a major socio-economic activity to generate foreign currency and employment and to spread the benefits of tourism to both the private and public sector in the Republic of the Philippines. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
