Assignment One Reflection Assignment One was a very interesting assignment.

Although I originally thought that that it seemed like a simple assignment, I realized quickly that there was some complexity within the assignment. An example is that when I started to analyze the discourse communities, I realized that they are all separate and yet the same in many ways. Discourse communities are much like cultural groups. Everyone has their own culture, yet everyone shares a culture with someone else. his is the same with discourse communities !ecause we are all unique and could "easi!ly put ourselves in our own group, yet we also share discourse communities with other individuals, and in some cases lots o" other individuals in #ust one discourse group. I !elieve that analyzing discourse communities is my strength, as well as analyzing the social norms $or literacy practices in this case% within a group. &y weakness in any assignment is always my a!ility to communicate the way I intend to and to get my point across. I "ound the peer commentary to !e extremely help"ul !ut not necessarily when it was directed at my paper. On the "irst day o" the peer commentary workshop, everyone in the group was "ocused and yet creative. 'e were all coming up with great idea "or "urther developing our papers. (owever, I "ound that when we came !ack "or a second day o" workshops, everyone had lost their motivation and I "elt that I received very little "eed!ack to point me in the right direction "or my revision. here were comments a!out structure, even though I explain in my paper why I go out o" order. I speci"ically made a point to include my interview and pictures within o!servation one !ecause I "elt that was how it would naturally happen in most circumstances. I also "elt like this made my paper more unique and made my o!servation more captivating, rather than dragging on and on with o!servation notes. I was also told that I should include de"initions. his made me uneasy !ecause although I do understand the necessity to go a!ove and !eyond, it made more sense to me that we should "ind our own ways o" going a!ove and !eyond. It seemed like some people assumed that we should do something !ased simply on the "act that others in the group did it, even though it wasn)t on the assignment sheet. I would like "or you to pay special attention to my summary o" the *ules and +onventions in my "igured world !ecause I think that it was well written and a decent opening paragraph "or Assignment One.
