4. Look at the pictures of the following reading. What are the texts about? Which country are those houses in? Is there anything in common between your

house and these houses? Can we find houses like these in Colombia?

5. Look at this other example of a person describing his/her house. The house where I am living My family consists of 4 people. There are my parents, my sister and me. We are living in a large house in a suburb of Ho Chi Minh City. The house is made of brick and covered with red tiles. It has 5 rooms including a living-room, 3 bedrooms and a kitchen. The livingroom, which is rather large, is decorated with beautiful pictures on the walls. The bedrooms are nice; one is for my parents and the other two for my sister and me. The kitchen is tidy and well equipped with a gas cooker, a washing-machine and a refrigerator. Around the house, there is a large garden with many fruit-trees and flowers. I like this house very much. It is the place where I was born and grew up. It has given me good memories since my childhood. I wish I would live in it forever.

Scenario Role 1

Sara-John

Its 2:30 in the morning and you receive a call from your best friend. S/he is telling you that s/he is at a friends house having fun in a party. S/he is insisting you to come to the party even being 2:30 am. Of course, your answer is a no as you have a final exam to take at 7:00 am. Take into account that you are failing the course and you need to get an excellent grade. You do not want to hurt your friends feelings, but you really think you are not going to make it to the party. You also suspect that your friend has drunk a little more than usual and that that is the reason for her call.

Scenario Role 2

Mia-Andrew

You are having fun at a friends party (no alcohol has been consumed in excess). Its 2:30 in the morning when something kind of unexpected happens. The girl/boy your best friend, Sara-John, has been in love with for several months, has come to the party. S/he starts asking you for Sara-John and saying that s/he would have liked her/him to be there because s/he likes him/her too much. S/he asks you to call Sara-John to try to persuade him/her to come to the party, but the girl/boy explicitly asks you not to mention that s/he is the reason why s/he wants Sra-John to make it to the party. As the girl/boy is in front of you when you call Sara-John, you have to try to persuade Sara-John to come to the party given other reasons, but not saying that the girl/boy s/he has been in loved with for so long wants to see her/him.

Terry

You are preparing for an important presentation at university, which will be given tomorrow. It is evening and your friend, Chris (role 2), call you to invite you over for a while. What will you do? Should you keep working? Do you need a break? You know that this friend loves to talk and may keep you there for hours.

Scenario Role 2

Today is the birthday of your friend, Terry (role 1). You know that Terry has been working quite hard recently, so you and your other friends have organized a surprise party for Terry. You think that Terry may be working, but it is your job to call him/her up and extend an invitation to come over to your place, where the party will be. Of course, you cannot reveal the real purpose of your invitation because that would spoil the surprise.
