INTRODUCTION

I love colors; they are happiness, light and love……they

express my feelings……

Learning is like a rainbow…it shows the most beautiful

colors the nature has given to us. Through learning we can

show the best we have in our mind and heart, not only to

people, but also to ourselves……

A portfolio shows learning about teaching……

A portfolio shows learning as a rainbow shows colors……

Reflection 1

The final step in my entire course of study, the professional

practice, is a mix of sensations and feelings. I am very proud getting this
one, with energy and many wishes. It would be one of the most special
times in my university age. Fears are present, but I have the conviction
in resolving all kind of difficulties successfully.
About the workshop, I consider this experience as a good opportunity to
know the other’s feelings and fears, and recognize and reconsider my
ones. Sharing our expectations about this process is the best way to feel
more comfortable and self reliable, because I realized Iam not the only
one with doubts, fears and expectations; and thinking that teaching is a
wonderful life style, not only in the classroom, but also in every place.

Workshop Nº 2

Refer to the Teaching Stage you have already started and answer the
following questions:

1. Do you feel satisfied with your performance as a teacher so far? Take about
the things you like and about the ones you don´t like.

In my opinion, I consider my performance as a teacher as a mix of sensations. I

can manage the class, but there are some students without any interest in the
classes; it was my biggest challenge. They are students older than the rest,
with some behavior problems. I can teach only very basic things; it is a
requirement of the guide teacher, it frustrated me very much, some students
learn, other get bored, for their higher level of English they have, other don’t
pay any attention, and it is very difficult motivate them.

2. Guide teacher´s support: How effective has it been during this stage? Why?

The guide teacher support me gave me some students characteristics, teach

me how to manage the class and giving me some general advices. It has been
effective, but not enough, because the advice wasn’t with the frequency I
need.

3. Student´s level of engagement: Do your students enjoy the classroom

learning activities presented? ; What do they say about them?
At first, I introduce to students some interesting and enjoyable activities,
but they didn’t

understand me (my use of English) and they didn’t have the disposition
in learning. I realized that, and decide to use more written exercises, and
they are more useful and effective; I can check students learning and
progress easily and successfully.

4. Planning and lesson preparation: What teaching approach do you consider

appropriate to students ´learning style? Which one are you actually using with
them? Why?

I “dream” using oral instructions and methods, but the reality was using
written activities as more successful.

5. Lesson Timing: How much of the planned activities do you actually cover in
each lesson? Is it what you expected?

I covered only few activities I planned every class, the students need more
time in order to develop the exercises and the contents were repeated
sometimes for a better understanding of the contents.

Reflection N° 4: “The way I feel”

I started doing my practice in April. I went to the High School three

times. In a meeting with other students and the supervisor teacher, I
met the principal of the school. In another day I met the guide teacher
and the class I was assigned to teach. Next day, the teacher’s strike
started; teachers of all country fought for their right getting the SAE
bond. A month and half after, finally, it is ended because of an
agreement between the Government and teachers.

In my case, as a student doing my professional practice, I felt very

stressed and uncomfortable with the situation at the beginning, without
any information about the conflict and its end. Then, as the days went
very quickly, I decided to plan some ideas for my classes; I planned with
a classmate because she is going to teach the same level as me. I had
the opportunity to contact with the guide teacher some times; he gave
me some instructions about the class and their level of English. That was
very useful for me.

Nowadays, I hope this final stage will be successful. I love the class; the
students are very nice and cooperative. About the fears, I guess the
main problem would be the student’s motivation, because of the long
time without classes; and the time, having less time of me majority of
my classmates to cover the topics related the level, and the steps of the
process.

I realize the situation is not the most perfect, but is a part of this
profession………being a teacher is an very interesting and amazing
challenge………..working with young people, and, in a some way,
changing their lives, or trying to do it, at least!!!

Reflective writing

In my opinion, teaching is a challenge very hard. But I love it. At the end
of this process, I feel very frustrated with my performance as a teacher.
The realities of students make me feel very unsecure and upset
sometimes. Upset with my lack of experience and solutions to apply in
the classroom. I consider this semester as a very stressful, and I realized
teaching is more stressful that I thought. But teaching change lives. It
can change my life and other’s. I promise myself improve my attitude
about teaching in general. I don’t want to feel disappointed with my
chance in studying Teaching. I love English; I loved pedagogy, but today
it is difficult to feel very happy about my chose some years ago. But
maybe it is only a temporary stage, to the end, I love to help others to
learn, and contribute to make changes in their lives. I follow trying and
trying to do my best in order to love it, and in feeling proud to be a
teacher.
