HOPE/HOSBO

The HOPE/HOSBO glide missile family meets the requirements of the German Air Force for engagement of above-ground and underground targets and sea targets. Apart from the seeker, the modular designed missiles use the same main assemblies. HOPE is equipped with a high-performance penetrator warhead whose efficiency is superior to any other system presently in service. HOPE is especially suited for engagement of terrorist centers and dugouts in cave and tunnel systems but also of hardened above-ground and underground infrastructure targets. HOSBO can be equipped with various warheads based on lethal and non-lethal impact principles such as blast/fragmentation, submunitions or High Power Microwaves. Thus, adapted effectiveness around and within the target is possible. In addition, collateral damage can best be avoided by intelligent fuzes. The high requirements placed on precision within the target, all-weather capability and ECM resistance are fulfilled by means of GPS/INS guidance, electro-optical sensors and specially adapted target approach. Due to their aerodynamic design, HOPE/HOSBO glide missiles achieve an extremely long mission range while simul-taneously retaining excellent maneuverability. __________________ Description: The HOPE/HOSPO is a family of guided glide missiles being developed by Diehl BGT Defense for the German Air Force to engage ground, sea and underground targets. The missile family is based upon modular design which allows to re-utilize the same assemblies in different missile variants. Their key design requirements are extreme precision, allweather and ECM resistance. The guidance system combines GPS/INS navigation with electro-optical seekers. The aerodynamic design focuses on high maneuverability as well as on extended range. The German Air Force plans for integration of the HOPE/HOSBO missiles on Tornado and Eurofighter manned aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) beginning in 2010. These medium-range weapons are intended to allow non-stealth fighters, such as Eurofighter, to achieve the same degree of combat effectiveness of stealth aircraft delivering short-range weapons above heavily protected targets.

The HOSBO is a highly flexible, general purpose weapon which can be equipped with a variety of lethal and non-lethal warheads. Diehl BGT Defence is studying blast/fragmentation and High Power Microwaves warheads. Collateral damage is avoided to the extent possible by using intelligent fuzes. Its smart design allows the flight path at the approach phase to be adapted to the target's profile. The HOSBO missile range is optimized for engagements of air defense sites and its maneuverability mated with advanced data-link and seekers will enable engagements of high-speed boats and fast moving jeeps. The flex-targeting capability will also enable mission abortion and engagement of opportunity targets. Besides, HOSBO could land in a deserted escape zone during missions in asymmetric scenarios observing stringent mission rules.

HOSBO

HOPE HOPE is a glide bomb with high maneuverability, developed particularly to engage hardened targets, such as tunnels or subterranean bunkers, but also moving targets. HOPE has a range of more than 160 kilometres (99 mi) and an internal GPS/INS and electro-optical guidance. HOSBO is a highly maneuverable glide bomb that can be equipped with modular warheads, including non-lethal ones, e.g. with high-energy microwaves. Range and guidance are equal to HOPE.
