Goal and Objectives Increase the support of Carolina Power and Lights nuclear proposal in the communities of Shearon

and Harries, North Carolina and receive formal authorization from the Federal Nuclear Regulatory Authority

1) Increase local support of the power plant from 30 percent to 70 percent in three months. 2) Reverse the amount of negative media attention, and achieve a four-to-one ratio of positive to negative media coverage in 6 weeks. 3) Convince 70 percent of C.A.S.H that this power plant is the best solution to power issues in the surrounding communities in 8 weeks. 4) Increase support from the medical community from 40 percent to 70 percent in the next six weeks. 5) Increase support from the scientific community from 35 percent to 75 percent in the next 8 weeks.

Key Publics and Messages Medical Community The medical community is driven by a number of factors. First of all, their ultimate goal is to realize the safety and health of the members of their community. They wish not only to treat illness, but provide ways to prevent illness and minimize injury. We would like you to know that the scientists we have hired have undergone extensive training and education in order to properly prepare them for running and maintaining such a facility. We have also been involved in contributing to scientific programs and studies at the surrounding universities. We are also prepared to work with the scientific community in order to determine the latest in innovative methods to improve the plants operations and safety methods. Scientific Community Through the use of print media and face-to-face communication, convince the scientific community that nuclear power is safe and wont cause harm to residents in the surrounding communities 1) Meet with scientific professionals at universities and scientific councils in order to discuss their concerns and determine together how to best ensure the safety measures of the plant. 2) Provide scientific professionals with a pamphlet of information highlighting the various facts regarding nuclear power, and what Carolina Power and Light Company has done in order to exceed safety regulations established by regulatory bodies. 3) Regularly meet with scientific professionals in order to report the changes being made based on their input in order to further safety.

Residents of Shearon and Harris Communities Through the use of mass media, face-to-face communication and special events, convince the residents of Shearon-Harris that nuclear power is safe and will improve their standard of living. 1) Hold regular town meetings where residents can voice their opinions and see the changes that Carolina Power and Light are making. 2) Organize plant sponsored events within the community meant to highlight the concern and love that Carolina Power and Light has for Shearon and Harries 3) Have positive media coverage, both print and broadcast, regarding the events planned by the company, donations given to the Universities and the increase in money given to the communities as a result of Carolina Powers tax payments. 4) TV spots highlighting the safety and benefits of nuclear power.
