CONCEPT
DESIGN PROCESS
In designing my logo, I first reviewed the brief and assessed the clients needs. The client requested bright, vivid colors and an easy-to-read typeface. She also wanted to incorporate the outline of the state of Michigan into the design. I then gathered the logos from similar organizations, including Boulder County Public Health, the Marion County Public Hearth Department, and the Boston Public Health Commission. I noticed that many of the logos incorporated the cross symbol, as well as dynamic shapes and outlines. I decided to take an abstract approach, and used a dynamic brush on the outline of the state of Michigan as the symbol. I also wanted the logo to be simple and futuristic, and did not want to complicate it with unnecessary brush strokes.
COLOR PALETTE
I chose to use a color palette similar to the ones used in Boulder County Public Healths and the Marion County Public Health Departments logos. I felt that the client was drawn towards the colors and vividness of these logos, and that these colors can help convey a feeling of hope and energy.
TYPOGRAPHY
I chose to use the font Avenir Next because it is a clean, simple, and easy-to-read font, but at the same time, it has a certain uniqueness. I originally considered using Helvetica, as it is a very standard font seen across many different organizations and companies, but ultimately, I decided to find a font that has similar characteristics to Helvetica (clean, easy to read, etc), but still stood out.
