National Family Caregivers Month

Each year, more and more Americans are caring for a loved one with a chronic condition, disability, or the frailties of old age. There are as many as 90 million family caregivers in the U.S. today. Two out of every 5 adults are family caregivers. Alzheimers is driving the numbers up. More than 15 million family caregivers are providing care to more than 5 million loved ones with Alzheimers disease. The number of parents caring for children with special needs is also on the rise. Additionally, 1 million Americans are providing care for wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan alone who suffer from traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, or other wounds and illnesses. Its not just women doing the caregiving. Men are now nearly equally involved. Also, younger Americans between the ages of 18 and 29 are family caregivers, with 1 million of these caring for a loved one with Alzheimers. Family caregiving is a tough job requiring individuals to perform complex medical/nursing tasks such as managing multiple medications, providing wound care, and operating specialized medical equipmentabout $450 billion worth of unpaid care each year. Woodruff Manor would like to take this opportunity to recognize family caregivers, past and present, for these important and challenging roles they play within their families. You do make a difference!

November is National Alzheimers Disease Awareness Month
Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured, or even slowed.

The purpose of MO-vember is for men to be clean shaven on November 1, then grow moustaches to raise money throughout the month for mens health organizations, specifically for prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

More than 5 million Americans are living with the disease.

Thank you for your service!

Woodruff Manor would like to take this opportunity to thank our employees, our families, our residents, our volunteers, and all who support us for enabling us to provide such a wonderful service to the Woodruff community!
