MuchofourEarthsrockyinterior(themantle)ofourplanetis hotenoughtoflow,likeacandybarkepttoolonginones pocket.ThesurfaceoftheEarth,however,ischilledbythecold ofspace,andsothefamiliarrocksoftheEarthssurfaceare hardandbrittle.Thecoldouterlayerofourplanet,whichholds togetherasarigidshell,isnotmadeofonesolidpiece.
