Introdu&tion
Energ$ is one of the top three national priorities. B+ilding energ$ infrastr+ct+res *ith high efficienc$ and rene*able energ$ so+rces is an important $et challenging tas for a s+stainable f+t+re. 9mart grid is a term referring to the nation:s ne;t generation electrical po*er s$stems. As smart grid gains increasing interests, research comm+nities, go#ernment agencies and ind+stries are getting acti#el$ in#ol#ed in #ario+s aspects of smart grids. 9$stem and optimi<ation models ha#e al*a$s been pla$ing an important role in po*er s$stems. 9ome of the classical problems incl+de +nit commitment, optimal po*er flo*, and generation e;pansion. =n smart grids, technologies need to be de#eloped for integration of large-scale rene*able energ$, demand-side control, po*er >+alit$, *ide area sensing and monitoring, and ad#anced control for reliabilit$ and stabilit$. !hese +nprecedented technologies inspired ne* problems and topics in s$stem and optimi<ation research to address these challenges .

Program Goals
!he main ob5ecti#e of the proposed one *ee 9!!' is to bring together researchers and decision ma ers, and practitioners from academic, go#ernment, and ind+str$ to share their research *or s, ne* ideas and re>+irements for ad#ancing the no*ledge and progress for b+ilding smart grids. !he co+rse *o+ld incl+de sessions on f+ndamentals of distrib+ted generation, po*er >+alit$ iss+es *ith dispersed generation and their control, introd+ction of smart grid concept, detail disc+ssion on iss+es and possible sol+tions in interface and control of smart grid. 'articipants *ill be enco+raged to transform research ideas into practices and to identif$ challenges emerging from applications. !his training program also pro#ides +ni>+e net*or ing opport+nities for participants from #ario+s bac gro+nds. !his *o+ld enable participants to identif$ research directions, to coin pro5ects and adopt appropriate research methodologies to p+rs+e the desired goals.

!his training program is intended for fac+lt$ members of engineering colleges in Electrical?Electronics Engineering departments. !he program *o+ld also be +sef+l to the po*er s$stem engineers, energ$ cons+ltants and ind+str$ personnel *or ing in the area of energ$ s$stems.

Established b$ 7o#ernment of )aharashtra vide Act @@== of 1040, Dr. Babasaheb Ambed ar !echnological "ni#ersit$ is a +nitar$ 6non-affiliating8 "ni#ersit$ *ith f+ll f+nding from the 9tate 7o#ernment. 9it+ated in the #icinit$ of the historic &aigad fort and s+rro+nded b$ the hills of 9ah$adri range, the (A0 acre terrain of the "ni#ersit$ camp+s has all the nat+ral bea+t$ of Bon an. At present, the "ni#ersit$ cond+cts 4 B.!ech. and 6 B.!ech. programs in #ario+s disciplines of Engineering , !echnolog$. !he "ni#ersit$ also cond+cts 'hD programs in #ario+s disciplines of Engineering , 9ciences. Altho+gh relati#el$ $o+ng, the "ni#ersit$ is ma ing its mar in the field of research and technological ser#ices thro+gh its dedicated fac+lt$ and disciplined st+dents. %ocated on )+mbai-7oa Cational -igh*a$ Co. 1A, the +ni#ersit$ is 110 m so+th of )+mbai, 20 m north of )ahad and is 121 m a*a$ from '+ne. =t is also *ell connected b$ Bon an &ail*a$.

About the !e/artment

Established in the year 1995, the Department of Electrical Engineering runs following academic programs: (i) B !ech in Electrical Engineering, (ii) " !ech (#ower $ystems) and (iii) #h D !he department has state%of%the art laboratories in #ower Electronics, #ower $ystems and &igh 'oltage Engineering with good analysis and research facilities !he faculty members of the department are acti(ely engaged in )*D and e+tension acti(ities $e(eral research scholars are wor,ing on campus and off campus in emerging areas of electrical engineering
