Mortify Our members

Scripture Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: for which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: in which ye also walked sometime, when ye lived in them. (Colossians 3:5-7) Introduction: Once we identify our selves in the very nature of Christ, We need to move on understanding the following 1) Definition of sin 2) Understanding the things of the earth 3) Mortifying our members of the body

The Definition of Sin

Disobedient is Sin: Sin was conceived of as being fundamentally disobedience to God. Not worshiping the creator and not glorifying God through their body is sin For Jews transgression of Law is sin: sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). For that righteous man (Lot) dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds (2 Peter 2:8). For Gentile going against his conscience is sin: As law is written in his heart, he can judge himself, and live a righteous life, if he is not able to do so, its sin for him. Not believing on Jesus Christ is sin: After the birth, death, burial and resurrection of Christ, not believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is sin. And when he (the Holy Spirit) is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me (John 16:8, 9). Now, men are not lost because they sinned, but they didnt believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Doubting is sin Are you wavering between two decisions, to eat or not to eat, to drink or not to drink, to go to a certain amusement or not to go, to say certain things or not say them, to conform to a style of dress or not to conform Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (I Corinthians 10:31). We may be fully persuaded that the thing is not right, and consequently by doing it we will offend God. In such a case we sin against God and self when we do it. This I understand to be the meaning of the statement, whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23). Not doing well is sin Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin (James 4:17).

Understanding the things of the earth

There are certain things which we need to "put to death", "Consider our selves dead to those things". Here is the simple list. gjtimothy@gmail.com Page 1

Fornication: A general term for any illicit sexual intercourse; includes adultery, homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality Uncleanness: Uncleanness in a moral sense: the impurity of lustful, luxurious, profligate living Passion (inordinate affection, KJV): Used by the Greeks in either a good or bad sense; in the NewTestament in a bad sense, it means depraved passion, vile passions Evil desire (evil concupiscence, KJV): Desire, craving, longing, desire for what is forbidden, lust. Also that which appeals to the "lust of the eyes" Covetousness: Greedy desire to have more, covetousness, avarice. All these are described by Paul to be equivalent to idolatry!. For covetousness puts things in the place of God. We are to set our minds on things above (where God is), but when we covet material objects we have our minds on things below, making such objects our idols!

Mortifying our members of the body

The Scriptures mention three ways in which the believer mayovercome the Flesh. (1) By Amputation. Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eyes offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (Mathew 18:8-9). (2) By Mortification. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Rom. 8:13. Mortify therefore your members Col. 3:5-7. (3) By Limitation. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,(Heb 12:1) From what has been said we see that our "Fellowship" with the Father may be broken, but our relationship never.1John 1:3,1John 1:7. There is a difference in is not in the sin, but in the way God treats when a beleiver sins. Father, who sends his son as Advocate, restores us. We need to take a concious decision from our life that what ever evil, sin, tresspass is there; we have to consider our selves dead to those, and live a righteous live. We no more live in our past life
