Abd Shukor bin Abd Rahman (Datuk,Dr) Chairman, Arif Efektif Sdn Bhd (A Subsidiary of All Cosmos Bio-Tech Holding Corporation)
ASEAN Regional Conference on Food Security 2013

8-10 October 2013, Bayview Hotel, Georgetown, Penang

Green technology is not green revolution

Application of one or more combination of scientific methods to investigate and conserve the natural environment and resources, usually in a much more eco-friendly manner with absentia or judicious use of chemicals.

Criteria of Green Technology

It minimizes the degradation of the environment It has a zero or low green house gases (GHG) It is safe for use and promotes healthy and improved environment for all forms of life It conserves the use of energy and natural resources It promotes the use of renewable resources

Status of Green Technology Research in Malaysia

Current activities 1. Biofertilizer 2. Biopesticides 3. Biocontrols 4. Precision Farming 5. Agro Waste Management 6. Renewable Energy 7. Organic Farming

Emphasis Effective microbes

Microbial consortium bio-fertiliser for sustainable agriculture

Biological Nitrogen Fixation

1. Involves two processes, stabilization and biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) 2. BNF uses ecologically isolated and stable free-living nitrogen fixers that thrive in compost 3. The nitrogen fixers exist in the form of cysts and are stable for long periods.

Waste

Developed from chrysanthemum discards from flower packaging houses and from the field. Designed to substitute the expensive imported Peat Grow media for raise nursery seedlings. Developed via proprietary composting process with additional plant nutrient.

aerobic fermentation

Importance of RE
Energy

from biomass account for more than 90% the RE potential in Malaysia economy. significantly to the national

Contribute

If

RE can sustain 5% share in electricity generation, Malaysia can save RM2.8 billion over 20 years period perspective, RE contributed net reduction of million tons of CO2

Environmental

15

RE activities in Malaysia
Biogas production technology from animal slurry
Solar drying Pyrolysis technologies to produce biochar for energy or soil amendments R & D on biofuel from Jatropha

16

The structure uses solar radiation to dry the products naturally Heat energy from the sun is trapped by the plastic sheet Temperature inside the dryer rise by about 20oC, reducing RH by 40%

Purpose - dry agricultural and food products.
