Final Images For my final images I chose the photos that had the biggest visual impact.

For me to decide which pictures were the best I looked at different aspects such as composition, lighting, tonality and sharpness amongst other smaller details.

I chose this photo as my first final for many different reasons. This image caught my eye firstly because of the composition. I found that the two white cables running either side of the door led my eye into the middle of the picture. This helps to frame the doorway, which is what I wanted to achieve because I intended to capture a photo that made the viewer study the architecture and beauty of the door. I also really liked the contrast that the dark brickwork has against the bright white highlights of the doorframe. This works well with the black door because it stands

out against the frame. The detail in the image is seen in the dirty flacking on top of the doorframe, which adds texture to the picture. Texture is also seen in the bricks, which contrasts with the grout to create a sharp, detailed look. Overall I wanted a high contrast black and white image to show off the architecture of a doorway. In my opinion this image delivers in this aspect.

I chose this image mainly because of its composition. The picket fence initially caught my eye because I feel it frames the doorway and leads the viewer into the picture. Even though there is a lack of detail in the fence, the colour works well with the highlights of the door. Against the darker, high contrast bricks, the door is nicely framed with detail showing in the door, which adds texture to the picture. Compared to the other photos, this is my only final image that has a white door. It didnt bother me that there was a colour difference because I wanted to get the audience to focus

on the beauty in the image and how the composition draws the viewer in. I made sure that I set an aperture of f.8 on the enlarger to boost the detail. I also increased the contrast filter to 2.5 to really bring out the textures in the grout and foreground.

When I was looking at my contact sheets, this picture caught my eye because of the interesting foreground. Here the fence and gate use converging lines to take the viewer from the outside of the image into the center to focus on the door. I find that this makes a much more intimate image. The other thing that makes this picture visually more appealing than the others is the symmetry. Everything from the gate to the edges of the window frames line up, which in my opinion makes an aesthetically nicer photograph. You also get a real mix of tonality in the bricks. At the top of the image they are lighter, older bricks, where as the walls and pillars are darker, more

modern bricks. The colour difference in the brickwork also shows up in the contrast of the photo. The darker areas in the foreground show lots of detailed shadows. On the other hand, as you progress into the photo the lighter bricks frame the black door. I feel that the white doorframe works well in black and white as it splits the door away from the dark shadows created from the arch so that its not too overwhelming.

I really like this door mainly because of the archway that surrounds it. The point of the arch in my opinion works well with the curvature of the doorframe. The frame also picks up contrast well because of the different colours in the photo. I also liked the tones in the brickwork, as they were all different colours, resulting in an overall sharp punchy image. Like the third picture, the symmetry also makes this photo

more appealing to look at as it shows off the equality of the doorframe, which emphasizes the quality of the architecture. Image order and mounting The order the photos are to be presented as they are in the document. I looked at the overall tonality and brightness of each if picture and decided that I wanted alternating tones e.g. dark, light, dark, light. As I am aware, there is one picture that has a white door, which could look out of place if its not ordered correctly. This the main reason for me comparing the tonality as the photograph as the white door has lighter brickwork along with one of the other pictures. I have also decided to mount my photographs on thick card. I also had the choice between to mount on foam board but decided against it because I personally dont like the feel of it. Foam Board can also be easily damaged if someone accidently dented the board. I also prefer the finish, which in my opinion feels higher quality and stronger.
