Technology Objectives:

1. Students will be able to apply the online game resources to further practice numbers 0-10 in Spanish and days of the week 2. Students will be able to apply online resources to create their own unique school schedule. 3. Students will be able to apply online resources to further their knowledge of numbers that exceed ten in Spanish. 4. Students will be able to express in Spanish via text message their least busy school day to an online texting website.

1. Introduce the Learning Activity: Prior to the onset of the lesson I will tell my students in English the structure of the lesson. I will tell them that our goal is to learn the numbers 0-10 in Spanish as well as to learn the days of the week in Spanish. I will also explain that we will be playing two online games of memory, one for the numbers and the other for the days of the week. I will explain to them that they will be learning how to create their own school schedules online and that I will guide them through the learning of how to ask their peers about their class schedule and respond as well. For example, in Spanish I will show how to ask what class/classes do you have on this day (Monday-Friday) and I will also give the response to this question. Along with this I explain to them that we will learn how to combine numbers to create times. Given the chance that this new material may be difficult and I see that many students do not understand, I will write both an example of the question as well as the answer on the board. I will also explain to them that they will be using their cell phones to text the day that they are the least busy to an online number

in which they will remain anonymous. Actual structure of activities: For the beginning 2-3 minutes of class recite the numbers and the days of the week and have the students repeat in order to build comprehension. Then have each student go to his or her computer and begin to play the memory games, of which they will do for 2-3 minutes by themselves. While they do so, circle the room to make yourself available for questions and difficulties of any sort. After 2-3 minutes have the class split into two groups and form a line in front of the projector where the games will be displayed. One group will begin the game of memory, have the students walk up to the board and point to the spaces they choose, as you stand at the computer and actually click on these spaces. After the first student goes he or she will return to the back of their line and the first person in the next group will have his or her turn. Continue this back and forth process until the game is finished. Play each game at least one time, and if time is seemingly available try to go through each twice, but this is not entirely important. For each pair of cards that the group gets, make a tally in order to determine the winner. This should take 4-5 minutes total. After the group game, have the students return to their seats. Have them open the schedule maker and proceed to guide them through how to ask the question of what class/classes do you have on each day and at what time and how to respond to this question. As stated prior, if comprehension does not seem high, write an example of both the question, answer and how to combine the numbers to state a time on the board. Have them get into pairs and begin asking each other the questions. One student will begin by asking the other about his or her Monday schedule and the other student will respond. This student will then ask the other about his or her Monday schedule and will continue to take turns until they have

gone through the week. When responding to the questions have the students fill out the schedule maker all the while and have this open on the projector to guide them. This activity should take 5-7 minutes because it involves more oral practice. In the final 2-3 minutes have the students text their least busy day in Spanish to the online number so that I can determine the most lax day for my class. For homework have them write out the names of the classes that they have for each day and at what times in Spanish, I will use this to assess the effectiveness of the class period. In order to motivate my students I will tell them that we will have a small in class competition based on the online games that study the numbers and days of the week. I will say that I have a prize for the winners (although in reality I will give all of them a prize at the end of class). To go along with the motivation I will explain to them that if they successfully text their least busy day in Spanish to the online number than I will try to make plans for a trip of some sort for the class to enjoy in their free time.

Provide Information: Remember that this is a Checkpoint A class, meaning that the students do not have much skill in speaking Spanish. Still however you must speak in Spanish as much as possible in order to foster a proper learning environment for a foreign language. That being said it is necessary to speak slowly and use clear pronunciation. At all times possible use physical gestures along with your speech in order to give other opportunities for students to comprehend the spoken word. In times where students fail to comprehend, use English such that they do not miss key aspects of the lesson. Requirements dictate 90% of instruction being spoken in the target language, so resort to

English only when necessary. When discussing the activities of the class you must be sure to lead by example. Prior to having them partake in their online games, show how to do the game on the projector. Prior to having them make their schedules, show how to do so on the projector. As stated above, prior to having them ask one-another the questions about their schedules and give responses, model these questions and answers for them. Lead by example throughout.

Provide Practice: For the objectives regarding how to learn the numbers 1-10 and the days of the week in Spanish, I will have my students play the online games both individually and with the group competition. This game shows the word in Spanish as well as pronouncing it so they will have the practice of both seeing the word and learning how it is spoken. In regards to how to say which classes they have on each day and at what times, I will be leading them by example and this will be giving the students the opportunity to use the numbers learned, use them in telling time, and the opportunity to say the days of the week as they sit in groups and go through the process of asking questions and responding. When telling times that exceed ten, they will be able to make use of the online page of Spanish numbers which will help them further their knowledge. They will also be given the opportunity to use the online machine of making their own schedules as well as being able to use their cell phones to text their least busy day to the online number.

Provide Knowledge of Results:

I will provide verbal feedback to the students on their practice efforts as I circle the class throughout their individual activities playing games as well as when they are in pairs discussing the schedules. I will respond to questions and difficulties and help them in their pursuit of speaking Spanish. I will provide written feedback to them after I receive their homework the following class and review and correct it. Review the Activity: Upon completing the lesson I hope to be able to make it clear that now given the situation that these students encounter numbers and or days of the week in Spanish in the future, they will be able to have more comprehension of the situation and will be able to understand their experiences more because of it. Method of Assessment: I will be able to assess my students understanding of the lesson in two ways. The first will be as I circle the room during their group discussion and listen in on their conversations, being able to see who is having more problems than others with the material as well as being able to see what aspects of the lesson were more strenuous in general, giving me the opportunity to return to this material in the future in hopes of strengthening my students knowledge in those areas that they struggle. The second manner of assessment would be after I collect their homework assignment and review how well or how not well the students understood the material being covered in the lesson. This would also be another way for me to find any general problems that I would have to address in the future.
