ELDER CARE BASED ON COGNITIVE SENSOR NETWORK

Introduction:
The population of the elderly people is in a steady rise throughout the world, creating the need to increase the facilities for the care of the elderly. The life expectancy of a human has increased significantly over the past decade. This means that there are more elderly people living in the world today than they were 1020 years ago. There are many people in our community, who because of age, infirmity, memory loss or impaired judgment can no longer be totally relied upon, are having pressure put on them to leave their home to stay in monitored environment and give up their precious independence. If they prefer to live alone they do however require constant monitoring so that medical help can be provided immediately in times of dire needs. Surely, with the technology of today, there is a better way for these people to resolve this problem, so that they can live independently, rather than being forced to live in a retirement village or old peoples home. Considerable research efforts have been focused towards in-home monitoring of people, often using wireless personal area networks.

Existing System:
Some of the studies have demonstrated the feasibility of remotely monitoring activities at home. In earlier days, Camera based system for home monitoring system has been popular with the old people. It is not convenient to keep on monitoring them through the Camera based surveillance. So we need an efficient method to get constant monitoring.

Proposed System:
In this paper, we report the design and development of a smart home based on cognitive sensors network. A prototype system has been designed and developed. The sensors detect the usage of appliances at home and collect important information. In this project we have current sensor to detect the usage of electrical appliance, bed sensor to know the presence of the aged people in the bed, and also the water flow sensor to detect the usage or the wastage of water in the home on the timely manner. The purpose is to monitor peoples daily activities in a non-

invasive manner and also provide reassurance that should something happen for which assistance is required; the system will alert the appropriate people. The usage of specific appliances in the home on the timely manner will be built in the system itself. Any major deviation in the routine of their daily life is defined as an abnormal activity. Upon detection of abnormality the system will trigger an alarm situation; in such case a SMS or txt message could be sent to a caregiver or family member who could check on the person and take appropriate action. Panic button will also be placed to intimate the need of emergency help, which has the highest priority. First section transmits about device running status in the area1. It also displays the power consumed that area. It also has Panic button for emergency. Second section transmits about the old people presence in the bed and water flow in his/her room. It also displays the specifics in that area. It also has Panic button for emergency. In the PC, the data are compared with the schedule in the timely manner and an alert message is sent to a caregiver or family member who could check on the person and take appropriate action.
