SPECIFIC LEARNING OUTCOMES Students should be able to: 1. Explore and apply appropriate structure of the English language for different text types. 2. Become proficient language user. 3. Assess and reflect on their learning.

PROJECT TASK (100%) Knowledge of the language in which a text is written is the first requirement of reading. It is not enough for a person to be able to sound out what is in the print. He needs prior knowledge of the language in which a text is written to make sense of it. TAKE NOTE: THIS ASSIGNMENT IS TO BE DONE INDIVIDUALLY TASK 1: Parts of Speech (20%) 1. Select an article from a source of your own preference. Provide a proper and complete citation for the article. 2. Identify any 10 sentences, (2 of each), which consist of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives from the selected article. 3. Rewrite the identified sentences by changing their word classes. E.g.: No. 1. 2. Sentences from the article The grey cat stole the fish. Who was knocking on the door? Word class Adjective Interrogative pronoun New sentences Grey is my favourite colour. Rahim is a good boy who does not tell lies. Word class Noun Relative pronoun

TASK 2: Tenses (20%): 1. Select a new article from a source of your own preference. Provide a proper and complete citation for the article. 2. Identify any 10 sentences, (3 of each and the last one of your own choice), which consist of simple, progressive and perfect. 3. Rewrite the identified sentences by changing the tenses. E.g.: No. Sentences from the article 1. They played football in the field. 2. She had seen the movie before.

TASK 3: Sentence Types (20%): 1. Select a new article from a source of your own preference. Provide a proper and complete citation for the article. 2. Identify any 10 sentences, (5 of each), which consist of compound and complex sentences. 3. Rewrite the identified sentences and break them to simple sentences. E.g.: No. 1. 2. Sentences from the article I tried to speak Spanish, and my friend tried to speak French. The students went to the movies after they had finished studying. TASK 4: Types of questions (20%) 1. Select a new article from a source of your own preference. Provide a proper and complete citation for the article. 2. Identify any 10 types of questions, (3 of each and the last one of your own choice), which consist of Yes/No questions (Y/N), Information questions (I) (Wh) and Tag questions (T). 3. Rewrite the identified sentences and state the type of questions and then form another type of question. E.g.: No. Sentences from the article 1. 2. Who do you live with? Was his idea good? TASK 5: Reflective Writing (20%) Reflect upon your personal and professional learning experience in completing the project. Your reflection should NOT exceed 200 words. Marks will also be awarded based on your attitude and commitment in completing this coursework. As such, you are encouraged to frequently consult your lecturer for advice, opinions, guides, etc. either via online or face to face interaction. A Good Project Should Show: 1. A clear and critical understanding of the task 2. Originality in presentation 3. Appropriate language use

5. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late submissions will be dealt severely.
