Course Description The course is to provide the fundamentals associated with the management of information system in a business enterprise. Information systems are one of the major tools available to business managers for achieving operational excellence, developing new products and services, improving decision making, and achieving competitive advantage. This course aims to help lay the necessary foundations in terms of the basic concepts necessary to intelligently assess/evaluate technology opportunities/alternatives to determine optimal solutions to business problems.

Course Objectives At the end of the course, it is expected that the students develop an understanding of the nature and impact of information systems upon organizations in general and on the decision making process. The students are aware of the current trends in IS/IT, especially ebusiness/e-commerce and their implications on people and organizations. The students become familiar with the process of making informed and insightful decisions concerning the use of information technologies and tools to achieve business goals and objectives. Further, they are able to understand how information systems can be used in generating competitive advantage to meet the strategic goals of a business. Course Contents Introduction to Management Information System; Foundation Concepts- Information Systems in global business, global e-businesses and collaboration; Information Technology Infrastructure- Emerging hardware and software technologies, databases and information management, internet technologies; Business Applications- Enterprise applications like ERP, CRM and SCM, E-commerce, managing knowledge, enhancing decision making; Building and Managing Systems- Building systems, managing projects; Management Challenges-

Ethical and social issues, information systems, organization, and strategy, managing global systems.
