Expect balmy weather, although the nights can be a bit breezy and the afternoons humid. Rainy season is usually from June to October. The cold weather typically starts November and ends when summer begins, usually by March. Palawan is on a different tectonic plate as the rest of the country and away from the so-called Pacific Ring of

Fire; thus, there are no active volcanoes, and virtually zero-chance of earthquakes or tsunamis. Puerto Princesa City has been elevated to the Hall of Fame after being awarded as the Cleanest and Greenest City in the country for three consecutive years. Anti-littering and environmental laws are strictly enforced. It also has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. Population density is quite low, considering that Palawan is the largest province in the Philippines and Puerto Princesa, the largest City in terms of land area. Palawan has been called the Philippines' Last Ecological Frontier, home to vast tracts of the last remaining tropical rain forests in the country. The City of Puerto Princesa, in fact, dubs itself the "City in a Forest". Palawan is also blessed with huge areas marked as marine sanctuaries meant to preserve its abundant marine life and richness of its biodiversity. As such, Palawan is host to a wide variety of terrestrial and marine flora and fauna, not all of which are harmless. Guests are therefore advised to take the usual precautions and care when enjoying the beaches and the great outdoors. Some tips: please try not to step on the coral reefs, pick up starfish for extended periods of time, or provoke wild or unusual animals. While malaria is no longer a problem in Puerto Princesa City, it is still a good idea to have insect repellant at all times, especially when exploring outdoors. Palawan's coastal areas, with its expansive mangrove forests, is also the natural habitat of sand-flies (also known as nik-nik), tiny insects that have a particularly irritating bite. Although treatable once bitten with a little calamine lotion+zinc oxide, it is best to avoid the inconvenience altogether by applying insect repellant, virgin coconut oil, or citronella lotion. Sand-flies are especially active during sun-up and sun-down. Located just 20 minutes from the airport, Microtel Puerto Princesa is the only international beach resort in Puerto Princesa City. The white sand beach in front of the hotel slopes gently and is very shallow, even during high tide, so it is very safe even for kids. During low tide, the beach extends far out into the sea. The strong winds during the Amihan season (northwest monsoon typical during November to April) make it deal for kiteboarding while the calm waters during Habagat season (May to October) is perfect for kayaking, skim-boarding, and snorkeling. Since opening in April 2009, Microtel Puerto Princesa has twice been awarded as the Cleanest and Greenest Hotel in Puerto Princesa (in 2012 & 2011) by the City Council and Mayor Edward Hagedorn. In 2010, it also won international recognition as the Best New Hotel in the Microtel chain of hotels in Asia-Pacific region. WHERE TO EAT The City is typically laid-back, with most establishments closing shop around 7-8pm. What Puerto Princesa lacks in bars and hang-outs, it makes up with a number of great restaurants. For native seafood dishes, you can't go wrong with Ka Lui, a must-see place here in the City. We also recommend Badjao Seafood Restaurant overlooking Puerto Princesa Bay. Bilao't Palayok is also a great choice for native grilled dishes and seafood. On the other hand, if you're craving for chicken dishes, then Ka Inato is a good choice. If Continental or Western cuisine is more to your liking, then there's always La Terrase and Gypsys's Lair -- all serve excellent excellent steaks, European dishes as well as the best Italian wines. Vietville serves authentic Vietnamese fare; D' Libayen, Kim's Hot Spring, and Arirang serve Korean cuisine, while Cafe Nori, Rai-rai Ken, Lotus Garden and We be Sushi serve Japanese food. However, if you find yourself too tired to go out after a full day of tours, then we have Seordamla, our poolside restaurant. A must-try! Kinabuch's Bar and Grill is a popular destination if you want to have a few drinks after dinner and maybe shoot some pool. Warehouz and Tiki Bar both have nightly bands and serve cold beer. For coffee and desserts, there are Heavenly Desserts, Divine Sweets, and Itoy's Coffee. All these establishments are within 20 - 30 minutes from the Hotel. Our Guest Services Desk will gladly help you make reservations. The Hotel likewise provides free scheduled shuttle services to the City at 11AM, 1PM, 6PM, and 8PM. Just inform us in advance if you want to avail of the free shuttle so we can reserve you a slot. If you have further queries, please feel free to email me at puertoprincesa.rsvns@microtel.ph or call (0908) 862 - 8081. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you to Microtel Puerto Princesa! Sincerely,
