1. 2. Children are defined as never-married sons, daughters, or foster children of the reference person and may be of any age. The method of adjusting for incomplete diaries has been refined with the 2011 Survey of Household Spending. Also, the age of household members is now defined at the time of the interview rather than as of December 31st of the survey year. To ensure comparability of the data, the 2010 data have been revised.
