Observation Form No.8 Questioning

In a classroom, the teacher is the center of attention, the owner of knowledge and information. Teachers often ask questions of their students to measure their comprehension or knowledge about the topic, but its a passive style that relies on students to absorb information they need on their evaluation or tests. The teachers objectives that are apparent are; to stimulate thinking, to reveal weakness, to initiate discussion, to review materials, to drill on facts and skills, to check on retention, and to measure progress. The teachers one way of measuring the learners ability are to ask them questions. It is essential in class because it initiates thinking that makes the learners active. The teacher can see whether the students are listening or not, if the student doesnt able to answer the teachers question. Ask ing questions to the students can also check if there is retention on their minds. The students objectives that are apparent are; to clear up difficulties, to find out what is important in the discussion, and to find best ways of studying. The students must be given a chance to ask questions because they are the one to apply the lesson they learn in your discussion. Some students ask questions because the lesson is not that clear on their minds. I observe that when the teachers ask the students if there is any questions before the teacher dismiss the class, when the students says no, it does mean that the lesson is clear in the minds of the students or the students are not listening in the teachers lecture. The types of questions that the teacher employed are; Thought question, for example is can you explain this concept in your own words, Leading question, for example is what do you think happen if you do that, Drill questions, for example is can you draw a diagram to illustrate this idea, Vague question, for example can you explain

what you mean, and Direct question, for example can you think for another way to solve the problem,
There are many ways of asking questions. Coming up with the right question involves vigorously thinking through the problem, investigating it from various angles, turning closed questions into open-ended ones and prioritizing which are the most important questions to get at the heart of the matter. When forming questions keep in your mind your course goals. Follow a yes or no question with an additional question. Do not ask more than one question at once.
