1 Whats New
Welcome to the KONTAKT 4.0.1 Manual Addendum! In this document, you will find a quick overview of last minute changes which didnt make it to the KONTAKT 4 Reference Manual.

1.1 Resizable KONTAKT Window

In the stand-alone version as well as in the plug-in, KONTAKTs window is now freely resizable: Grab the handle in the lower-right corner of the KONTAKT window to resize the interface to any desired width and height.

If you want to reset the KONTAKT interface to its default size, click Main Options > Interface> Reset GUI to minimal size.

1.2 New Quick-Load button

There is a new Quick-Load button the Main Control Panel. It replaces the former Size button, which became obsolete (see 1.1).

Clicking the Quick-Load button shows/hides the Quick-Load Browser (see chapter 12, QuickLoad Catalog, in the KONTAKT 4 reference manual)

1.3 Batch Compress

The new Batch Compress function allows to resave numerous samples or whole libraries in lossless KONTAKT .ncw file format. Click on Files in the Main Control panel and then on Collect samples / Batch compress to start batch-compressing. Batch Compress needs to unload any currently loaded Multis; click on Ok in the relevant dialog. Select a source and a destination folder. Note that Batch Resave is not working for copy protected libraries. For converting uncompressed samples to lossless compressed .ncw-files select Lossless compressed NCW. For converting compressed .ncw-files back to an uncompressed format select Uncompressed WAV / AIF.

Samples and instruments in the source folder will neither be deleted nor updated. Note that the folder substructure of the target-folder will be different from the source folders structure: Instrument files will be saved in an Instruments subfolder, while all samples are saved in Collected Samples. This is necessary to prevent having to resave the same sample more than once (if it was referenced by more than one instrument in the source folder for instance). Impulse Response samples and wallpapers of the source instruments will be resaved as well, but without compression.

1.4 New Icon for Multi Script Editor

In the Multi Instruments Header you will find a new icon for the Multi Script Editor.

1.5 Negative values allowed for parameter smoothing

KONTAKT 4 allows for negative values in modulation connectors, which makes it possible to emulate KONTAKT 2s linear parameter smoothing. Setting a negative value in KONTAKT 4 means to ramp time in quarter milliseconds. For emulation, the old KONTAKT 2 default smoothing (which was running at a buffer size of 512 frames) youd have to set a value of -46 (512 frames = 11.6 ms * 4 = 46.4). Note that KONTAKT 4s smoothing behavior does not depend on the audio buffer setting.

2 Known Limitations and Issues

2.1 Building data base for huge sample collections
Building the KONTAKT 4 data base referencing a very large sample collection can cause the data base to reach a very big size. Since the data base is partially loaded to your computers RAM, it will reduce the available memory for loading instruments.

2.2 AET Filter usage with other sample rates than 44.1 kHz
When using the AET Filer with other Sample Rates than 44100 Hz, there might be minor sound differences compared to the usage with 44100 Hz. Running the AET filter at 88,2 kHz or higher is not recommended.
