key element to my questionnaire because age is one of the main categories, along with gender, that allows producers

to categorise their audiences to create a magazine that specifically targets their target audience. As you can see the majority were sixteen years old at 53% (17 applicants), with equal amounts of applicants seventeen and eighteen (16%- 10 applicants) and the youngest age of fifteen (3%- 1 applicant), with the older ages of nineteen (3%- 1 applicant) and over twenties creating the minority (9%- 3 applicants). Therefore, the target audience of my magazine is going to be 16-18 year olds as they had the biggest influence on my survey

2) Luckily by chance I got equal amounts of male and females who filled in my survey. This will reduce the bias of gender on each of my questions and mean I will get a clear idea of how gender effects music choices and whether I should aim my magazine at males or females or both.

3) This question was so I could see what my applicants where currently reading or what genre of magazine they liked. I dint specify this question just to the genre music because I knew many of my applicants dont read them and therefore my question would become pointless as Id find out something I already knew. My resulted show that the majority- ten people said they do not read any magazines. This suggests to me that there is no magazine currently on the market that interests them enough to want to read it. Therefore, a gap in the market possibly for my magazine. Interestingly, six of those ten were sixteen and this supports my decision to create a magazine that is different aimed at 16-18 year old as theres potential to create a magazine theyre attracted to. The females liked gossip and fashion magazine so if I was to aim it at a female audience I could include fashionable artists and have features of celebrity musicians gossip. Focussing on music magazines, five applicants read NME, proving it to be the most popular music magazine, with Kerrang being read by two applicants. With the exception of two applicants being female, males were the ones who said they read these music magazines. This brings up the question of do I aim my magazine at a male audience because I know it exists or go for something new and aim it at females hoping to fill a gap in the market?

What magazines/ music magazines do you currently read?

4) I included this question so I was able to see how my audience bought music and therefore how I should advertise buying music in my magazine. itunes came out on top, which I expected as it is the biggest platform available to legally buy music and applicants buying music online also proved popular. The traditional CD proving unpopular. The six comments included websites such as YouTube and apps like spotify. It is clear to see that my audience buy their music online and it was the younger majority that did this because of the advances in technology and ever growing media platform of the internet. Therefore, I shall include the online music element in my magazine because I know it will attract my target audience.

WHAT BANDS/ MUSIC GENRES DO YOU LISTEN TO?

5) This question was key for me to get an idea of what genres my target audience listen to and therefore what genre my music magazine should be so it appeals to them. Pop/chart music came out on top which I expected as teenagers are stereotypically the age group to listen to popular chart music. A quarter of applicants said they listened to rock music and these were mostly male but with some females also listening and both genders saying the listened to pop/chart music. The niche genres of Indie, Rap, House, Alternative and dubstep also proved to be sparsely supported. 7% said they do not have any music preference so there is potential to persuade them to prefer the genre featured in my magazine. In conclusion, this conveys that my magazine will have to follow the genre of pop/chart music with strong elements of rock.

What interests you most in a music magazine?

6) This question shows that the main feature of my magazine will be an interview of a band/ artist, with new releases and upcoming artists also being accounted for. The smaller strap lines on my cover will include festival info and gossip of artists. Nine applicants said they do not know what interests them most in a music magazine and this was the sixteen year olds, therefore supporting my conclusion that nothing in the market appeals to them.

7) This is a detailed bar chart of which artists the applicants liked. Beyonce and Eminem proved to be equally as popular with four applicants each saying they liked them. Artic Moneys and Green day also came up a few times, along with Fall Out Boy conveying that applicants favoured the soft rock genre with an element of pop because of the popularity of Rihanna, Rizzle Kicks, Katy Perry, Mcfly and Little Mix. This again supports my idea of creating a magazine with the genre of soft rock and pop.

8) This question is similar to question six but it emphasises the need to include interviews and festival information, shown through exciting images. It also indicated to me that my audience does not want artist features or my magazine to be devoted to a particular artist because that would eliminate a huge majority of potential buyers

9) This was a direct question, so I could establish how much to sell my magazine for. Teenagers do not stereotypically do not have a lot of money because of their student status so 2 seems a realistic price and this was the most popular in this question.
