Properties
! Distributive Property - Multiply a sum by multiplying each addend separately and add the products of each. Ex. 9!47 = (9!40)+(9!7) ! Associative Property of Addition/Multiplication - You can change the grouping of an only addition or an only multiplication problem. Ex. 2+(4+5)= (2+4)+5 and (4!19)!10 = 4!(19!10) ! Commutative Property of Addition/Multiplication - You can add or multiply numbers in any order and it will not a"ect the sum or product. Ex. 4+6 = 6+4 and 12!3 = 3!12

Simplify: 4(7x-3) + 2x
! First of all, you would have to use the distributive property to distribute 4(7x-3). It would be 4!7x +4!3 = 28x+12+2x ! Now you would want to combine the like terms 28x and 2x which would be 30x ! Solution: 12+30x

Solve: 7x - 10 - 9x = -13
! First of all, you have to combine the like terms which is 7x-9x and that would give you -2x ! Now you are left with -2x-10 = -13. You have to do the inverse operation which would be +10 to both sides ! So the equation would look like this right now: -2x = -3 ! Lastly, just divide -2 from both sides to isolate the variable ! Solution: x = 1.5

Solving : 2 ! x/-5
! The rst thing that you would want to do is do the inverse operation with -5. ! So both sides need to be multiplied by -5. It would look like this : -5!2 # x!-5 ! -10 # x now you have to reverse the operation sign because we were working with a negative number. -10 $ x or x # -10 ! Now you have to graph this, you need to put -10 and 0 on the number line and making sure that it has a closed circle because its part of the solution set and the arrow is pointing towards the left because its less than or equal to.
-10

! Open circle when graphing inequalities on a number line - You use an open circle when it is not part of the solution set. So if its greater than or less than you use open circles. ! Closed circle when graphing inequalities on a number line - So basically when the problem is either Less than or equal to/greater than or equal to. The reason for this is because it is part of the solution set.
