Compost Your Fall Leaves: Turn summer’s shade and fall’s labors into black gold for your garden this fall
by learning the ins and outs of composting. Look for their information tables at the Arlington Courthouse Farmers’
Markets this fall.

Fall is prime lawn care time! “Lawns: Clean and Green?”, a two-part course on the basics of fall
lawn care sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension Saturday, August 29 from 9:30–11:30am at the Arlington
Central Library Auditorium located at 1015 N. Quincy Street and Tuesday, September 9 from 7:00–9:00pm at the
Alexandria Duncan Library located at 2501 Commonwealth Avenue. Classes are free. Soil test kits will be available,
or may be requested when you register. Registration is required.

Tree Stewards are out regularly at local Farmers Markets, answering questions from local area residents about
good tree care practices and the problems faced by trees in our urban environment. You may speak with them on
the first and third Saturday mornings of the month at the Courthouse market through September. Master Gardener
plant clinics likewise continue weekly through September at the Courthouse Market on Saturdays and the Central
Library Thursday evenings. Call 703-228-6414 for information on becoming a Tree Steward or Master Gardener
volunteer.

For information on these programs call the Virginia Cooperative Extension Help Desk at
703 228-6414, and check the VCE website for workshops and publications:
