3K3y User Manual


3K3y Installation
Refer to the install manual for your PS3 model.

Using the 3K3y Operating Modes


3K3y can operate in two emulation modes: 3Dump. Uses the dri e !eys from your PS3 to pro ide a full emulation" no ori#inal #ame dis! is re$uired. %ame &S's can (e used without any post processin#. )oKeys. Re$uires an ori#inal PS3 #ame dis!. %ame &S's must (e decrypted with the Ripp3r app (efore use.

3K3y Boot Modes


3K3y can (oot into one of two modes Passthru mode" connects the *D dri e to the PS3. +he PS3 will play dis!s as normal ,mulation mode" connects the 3K3y to the PS3. +he PS3 will play &S' files from a US* -DD PS3 Model .at Slim Super Slim Passthru Power on the system with a dis! in the *D dri e Power on the system with a dis! in the *D dri e Emulation Power on the system without a dis! in the *D dri e Power on the system without a dis! in the *D dri e

3K3y Remote
+he 3K3y Remote is an optional de ice that connects to 3K3y ia US*. /ith the remote you can select a #ame to load" iew confi#uration information a(out your 3K3y system and recei e feed(ac! a(out the system especially durin# 3K3y updates. &t is a useful dia#nostic tool that" while not necessary to use 3K3y" will #reatly enhance your e0perience with 3K3y. +he 3K3y Remote has three (uttons that allow you na i#ate its menu structure. Up 1 down (uttons scroll throu#h the menu structure" the middle (utton performs two functions. 2 short press selects the currently selected menu item" a lon# press ta!es you (ac! up a le el in the menu sytem. +he 3K3y Remote informs you when a -DD is attached or remo ed from the 3K3y system 1 the total num(er of -DD attached" it also displays a messa#e when the 3K3y 3plus /i.i interface4 has attached to your networ!. +o launch a #ame" na i#ate throu#h the menu system to the #ame you want to launch and select it with the center (utton. 5ou will then (e prompted to insert your ori#inal #ame dis!" after that the &S' will load and run.

3K3y ISO Menu


3K3y can emulate a data dis! containin# 7pe# ima#es. +he data dis! is #enerated dynamically (y 3K3y (ased on the #ames it finds on an attached -DD" each ima#e in the data dis! represents a #ame on the -DD. /hen 3K3y (oots into emulation mode and the 3K3y &S' menu is ena(led 3see confi#urin# the 3K3y (elow4 the data dis! is automatically loaded8. +he data dis! appears in the PS3 9M* under the photos menu" select the data dis! and (rowse as usual. 2t the top le el the &S' menu has two entries" an 2(out directory where you can find information a(out your 3K3y system and a directory representin# your -DD. +o select a #ame" na i#ate the data dis! to the #ame you want to launch and select it. 5ou must open

the ima#e full screen in order to select it. 2fter you ha e selected the #ame press the e7ect (utton on your PS3" the data dis! will unload and the #ame you selected will (e loaded. Super Slim users must manually open and then close the dis! co er. 5ou can customise the loo! of the &S' menu (y copyin# ;P% ima#es into the same folder as the #ame &S'. +he ;P% must ha e the same name as the #ame &S'" for e0ample: Borderlands2.iso 1 Borderlands2.jpg &MP'R+2)+: Software runnin# on the PS3 could (e used to detect &S' Menu 3or home(rew manu systems runnin# on the PS34. /hile this option wor!s and is supported it is not considered stealthy 8)ote: 'n PS3 Super Slim the *D dri e co er must (e closed for the data dis! to load.

Configuring the 3K3y Configuration Options


3K3y is confi#ured usin# a te0t file call 3!ey.cf#. *y edittin# the contents of the confi#uration file you can control the way 3K3y (eha es. &f you ha e o(tained your dri e !eys (y runnin# the 3Dump application on a 6./ PS3 you should copy it to the 3K3y?s micro SD card. &nsert the micro SD card into a SD card reader attached to your P6. 5our P6 will detect a 1M* .2+ formatted partition" copy your 3Dump.(in file to this partition and then e7ect>safely remo e the SD card

Updating the 3K3y Configuration, Firmware & FPGA


, ery time 3K3y detects a new -DD has (een attached it chec!s for the presence of certain files" if those files are present then a further chec! is made to determine if they match the files currently in use. &f they do not match then an update is performed and the new files are copied to the SD card. +he files that are chec!ed are: 3!ey.cf# = the 3K3y confi#uration file u&ma#e = +he <inu0 Kernel

+o update one or more of these files" copy them to the root of your -DD and then plu# the -DD into your 3K3y. /hen the update process (e#ins a messa#e will (e displayed on the 3K3y Remote" at the end of the update a new messa#e will (e displayed to confirm that the update is complete. Users without a remote can o(ser e the (lue dis! status <,D on their PS3" when the update starts the <,D will start flashin#" when the update is complete the <,D will stop flashin#. Do not turn off your system while an update is in pro#ress. 'nce the update is complete power cycle your PS3 for the chan#es to ta!e effect. &t is recommended that the update files are deleted from the US* stora#e de ice"

3K3y allows one or more US* stora#e de ices to (e attached" these stora#e de ices can (e -DD or .lash Memory. +he stora#e de ices can (e connected directly to the 3K3y?s US* adapter or" if the 3K3y Remote is (ein# used" to the Remote. Power for the US* stora#e de ice is ta!en from the PS3?s US* port" some -DD re$uire more power than the PS3?s US* port can supply. +here are se eral ways to sol e this pro(lem: Use a ?5? lead" this allows power to (e ta!en from two US* ports Use a powered US* stora#e de ice Use a powered US* hu(" plu# this (etween the 3K3y US* adapter and the US* stora#e de ice. 3K3y is an 'ptical Dri e ,mulator 3'D,4" it can only do thin#s that a real 'ptical Dis! Dri e 3'DD4 can do. 2n 'DD reads data from an optical dis! 36D>DBD>*D dis!s4 and an 'D, reads data from a file that contains a copy of the data from an optical dis!. +hese files are commonly !nown as &S's. 3K3y searches for &S' files in a folder called ?#ames? in the root of any US* stora#e de ice attached to it" 3K3y will also search any su(folders within the ?#ames? folder. +he su(directory structure is reflected in the menu system that 3K3y displays" this means that you can #roup your #ames in su(folders and use that to $uic!ly find a particular &S'. 5ou can choose to #roup &S' files in anyway you please" alpha(etically" (y #enre or not at all. &t is important to understand that this search ta!es time" the more &S' files present on the US* stora#e de ice" the lon#er the search will ta!e. Keepin# only the &S' files you use on the US* stora#e de ice will reduce the search time Refer to the 3K3y Ripp3r manual for information on creatin#" preparin# and re(uildin# #ame &S's.
