Top Gun

1. EVENT FORMAT
1.1. TDP (Team Description Paper) Round 1.1.1.This is a questionnaire round where participants need to submit a detailed questionnaire which will test the experience in the field of RC flying. 1.1.2.A Youtube-link showing the participant flying and an Aresti-diagram for the same also needs to be provided along with the questionnaire. 1.1.3.Depending on the response to the questionnaire and the video, participants will be selected for coming down to IITM for the flying-rounds. 1.2. Flying Rounds 1.2.1.Round-1 The participant needs to fly his plane in a fixed/given route. The round will test the basics of flying and it is an elimination round. 1.2.2.Round-2 The participant needs to choose a few (a specific number) manoeuvres from a set of fixed manoeuvres in a limited time. The manoeuvres will be scored according to their difficulty. It is an elimination round and the perfection with which manoeuvres are executed will be judged. NOTE: Plan for this round needs to be provided in the TDP itself. 1.2.3.Round-3 The participant in this round will have full freedom to show off his innovations. In a fixed-time any manoeuvre can be done to impress the judge. The judgment will be on innovativeness of manoeuvres and the skill with which they are executed. NOTE: Safety will be the first concern. So kindly ensure that very risky manoeuvre are not performed in this round.

2. RULES
2.1. This is a solo event. However the flyer can be accompanied by a caller. The participant must be a student. 2.2. The RC aircraft can be built or bought 2.3. IC engine or Electric Motor can be used to power the aircraft 2.4. Plane specifications 2.4.1.IC engine (maximum allowed) 2stroke: 0.61cu 4stroke: 0.91cu 2.4.2.Electric motor (maximum allowed): 1.15 kw (not more than 5 cells). 2.4.3.Wingspan not to exceed 60 inches. 2.5. The event will be conducted at IIT-Madras Stadium and participants will need to bring their aircraft and all necessary equipment to this venue. 2.6. The landing strip in the ground will be marked. 2.7. The size and a panoramic view of the ground and dimension of the landing-strip will be updated shortly on the website.

3. ROUND-1 PROBLEM STATEMENT

3.1. The path in this round is fixed. The manoeuvres are listed below and they should be executed as they are numbered. 3.2. The time given to execute these manoeuvres is 5 minutes including takeoff & landing. 3.3. Unless specified otherwise, all manoeuvres are expected to be centred on the judges the pilots are flying in front of. However, if the manoeuvre is called at a specific location, say to the left or right of the judges, it will be judged accordingly. 3.4. Ideally the manoeuvres should be performed in a quick succession but can be repeated and extra turns can be flown but will result negative points. 3.5. Downgrades for the manouvres. Occurance of any of these in the manouvres will result in loss of points 3.5.1.Takeoff and Landing Bumpy landing/takeoff, too steep, direction of heading(track) changes, wings not leveled, not performed within the prescribed area. 3.5.2.Inside Turn Direction of heading(track) changes, wings not leveled, maneuver not on the same vertical plane, the turn is not a semi-circle. 3.5.3.Inverted Pass Direction of heading(track) changes, wings not leveled, pass less than 25 meters, loss of altitude. 3.5.4.Half Roll Over or under rotation, direction of heading(track) changes, loss of altitude. 3.5.5.Normal Pass Direction of heading(track) changes, wings not leveled, pass less than 50 meters, loss of altitude

4. ROUND-2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

4.1. The participants need to choose from the given list of 23 manoeuvres such that their cumulative K values amount to a minimum of 70 which needs to be executed within 6 minutes. 4.2. No maneuver will be scored more than two times, i.e. if any maneuver is performed for the 3rd time (or more), it wont be scored. 4.3. The 2nd time a manoeuvre is performed a K value of 2 will be subtracted. 4.4. The Aresti diagram of the participant should be submitted during the TDP round itself (Refer section 1.1 and 1.2.2). 4.5. The guidelines for each manoeuvre are listed below. 4.6. The decision of the judges is final and cant be disputed. 4.7. Unless specified otherwise, all manoeuvres are expected to be centred on the judges the pilots are flying in front of. However, if the manoeuvre is called at a specific location, say to the left or right of the judges, it will be judged accordingly. 4.8. Guidelines for all manoeuvres in Round 2
