Started in the United Stated around 1800 Was a way for the government to deal with the poor During the Great Depression, the government stepped in to solve the problem and that is where the history of welfare as we know it really began(The History1).
Poverty rate is still about the same Started out at $77 billion dollars on social welfare and now is $393.7 billion.
The number of households receiving government benefits has steadily risen over time, particularly after the financial crisis(Plumer 1).

To get food stamps: Have to be a resident of North Carolina Those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or Those with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself)(North Carolina).

Drug Testing Cell phones, computer hook-ups and the like should not be provided at taxpayer expense(Christopher). Immigrants should not be on Welfare

Total savings from denying that one person benefits? $560. Total benefits paid out in that time? $200 million(Kelly 1).
