An assessment of current status of school crime reveals that the major problem we have is intermittent graffiti, namely in the parking lot signs on 221st Street and on the walls of some of our bungalows. Our custodian removes the graffiti and if necessary, painters from the District Maintenance Department are called to solve the issue. If necessary, pictures are taken and a report is made to the Lakewood Sheriff station. During the 20122013 school year, no reports were made to the Lakewood Sheriff Dept. The ingress and egress onto campus is secured by assigned school personnel at the beginning of the school day and at dismissal. During the day, gates are locked and monitored by all. Visitors to campus must sign-in and out and wear appropriate identification. All procedures are explained to our families in the Parent-Student Handbook received at the beginning of the school year. Morning supervision is provided to all our students from 7:40 a.m. 8:15 by classified personnel. Students in 1st 6th grade gather in assigned tables in the lunch area to facilitate the supervision and TK and Kindergarten students are supervised in Rm. A-5. The school is in compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to hazard materials and state earthquake standards. The schools disaster preparedness plan includes specific procedures to ensure the safety of students and staff. A variety of emergency drills, such as fire, earthquake, lock-downs, and total evacuation, are conducted throughout the school year to prepare students and staff. The drills take place during different times of the day to ensure students know how to react to the The School Safety Committee meets on a regular basis to review site safety concerns and to assist with the identification of items needing repair or creating a possible hazard. The Staff handbook received by all at the beginning of the school year stipulates that all personnel has a responsibility to report any safety concerns to the administrator. Emergency supplies are inventoried and re-stocked on a regular basis. The Emergency Preparedness Handbook is also revised as necessary. There is a team of two custodians, day and night shifts, who are responsible for keeping classrooms, restrooms and grounds clean and safe. All electrical, plumbing, roofing and fixtures are in good working condition and meet applicable building and government code requirements.
