20 November 2013 Japan-IMF Scholarship Program for Asia IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific

21st Floor Fukoku-Seimei Building 2-2-2 Uchisaiwai-cho Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-0011 Japan Recommendation for Md. Taufiq us Samad Tonmoy Dear Scholarship Administrator: It is my great pleasure to introduce Md. Taufiq us Samad Tonmoy, a very talented student of mine, for admission to the JISPA program. I have known him for the last four years, as his course teacher in the MBA program at the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. Taufiq has been a student in many of my classes (as he has taken the following courses that I teach: International Finance, Financial Institutions & Markets), so I have learned a great deal about him and his abilities, and I know he would do well in his future studies. As a student I always found him inquisitive and analytical, which was reflected through his performance on the exam scripts as well. He scored more than 80% marks in most of his courses in the masters program, which signifies the level of effort and commitment he put into his studious attainments. Taufiq was a very responsive and self-motivated person with various academic group and individual activities in the department (assignments, seminars, tutorials), and he encouraged others to excel their performance as well. His ability to give dimensions to any assignment and add value to it made him an asset for the department. He also successfully demonstrated leadership ability by counseling new and prospective students, and in being part of organizing many successful departmental events. He was also an exemplary figure to many for his ability to express his opinion precisely at any forum, regardless of the fact that his mother tongue and previous schooling had been in Bengali. In most cases in Bangladesh, students come into full-fledged study medium in English only at the undergraduate level. All my academic colleagues were delighted to find Taufiq already proficient with his sophistication in another language. After the completion of studies, Taufiq joined Bangladesh Bank, the central bank of Bangladesh, to work for the national economy. I have been in constant contact with him, and was surprised to find out how easily he coped up in such a rigorous sector and how he really enjoyed the nature of the job. His intern report on the Implementation of Basel recommendations with regard to Bangladesh made me admit his unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Taufiq was one of the outstanding students to come out from our University in recent times. I am confident in saying that he will be able to leave his footprint at the JISPA program as well, as he did here. Hence, I strongly recommend Taufiq for the admission in this scholarship program. I look forward to the time when he returns to Bangladesh, honing his skills to another level and making an even greater contribution to the development of our country. Please feel free to contact me at mahrufa@yahoo.com with any further queries about Taufiq. Very truly yours,

Mahrufa Bashar Assistant Professor Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University of Dhaka
