Gateway Today

Thanksgiving 2013
In July I wrote to many of our loyal supporters and friends, to inform you of the work from a personal viewpoint, to seek your prayer on a personal matter and to look forward together to every increasing ministry. This writing is a follow-up.

The work so far

In the past ten months, we are thankful to report that Gateway has

seen 1,089 women, 192 babies known born and counseled 48 boyfriends/husbands. Most importantly, 169 have trusted Christ and another 25 rededicated their life to the Lord! We especially thank God for this.

No longer homeless!

KC is in her 30's. This is her first pregnancy. She decided

to have the baby and also prayed with our counselor Evon in Irvington to rededicate her life to Christ. The latest news is that KC went for her first prenatal earlier this month. She's no longer in a shelter and has moved home with her mom. We are seeing many more women that are pregnant and homeless.

Heres what went on in the Gavaris household. Lorenas mom, Lura Faye, went to be with the Lord on July 9th. She was ninety years old. She had lived with us for the past two years. I asked your prayers for the internment on Long Island and for our trip to San Antonio, Texas as I led the memorial service. I trust that the Lord helped us both honor moms memory and clearly present Christ to family and friends. On August 12th I underwent surgery a radical robotic prostatectomy to remove a growing cancer. After a one day hospital stay and three weeks at home, I began to resume most normal activities. Since radiation was not required, full recovery should be complete in about six months to a year. This radical procedure greatly reduced the opportunity of recurrence. I am so thankful for His Grace and healing.

Our fall banquet took place on October 24th. Some 220 gathered to thank the Lord for the past year and look forward to the next. Dorothy Booker began full-time duties as our Irvington Client Services Director earlier this month. Jackie West continues to see an ever-growing ministry in Elizabeth. Since January, Gateway has been seeing almost double the number of women at our Elizabeth site. Our Plainfield site is being handled by myself and two staff, as we seek the Lords direction in possibly relocating somewhere else in town.

One further request, if Imay

During the long, hot summer months, giving was often insufficient to meet all our needs, especially payroll. Our last appeal greatly improved our financial position, but as we approach the end of 2013, we find ourselves about $50,000 behind budget. Would you consider a gift of $200 or more at this time to help us continue and expand this most needed ministry? God has blessed Gateway with much fruit and I seek your help in continuing this growth. Thank you for your love and prayers and financial support. Serving the Lord together
