Oh, to be a child at Christmas? To behold the wonder of the season with a fresh mind and young heart!

1! 4! ! 5! And why not? Why shouldnt the Advent season be lled with awe and mystery and 6! excitement? It can be, if only we open our hearts in childlike wonder to all that this holy 7! time offers. This is the secret of a child at Christmas: a hearts door perpetually open to 8! wonder, expecting the touch of God Himself. Children remember that Christmastime is the time for miracles. After all, its the celebration of Gods reaching out to the world He ! loves, through the birth of His own Son, Jesus Christ. 9! 10! So, how do we open our hearts to the wonder of Christmastime? How can we nd a suitable mix of activity and contemplation, fun and reverence? How can we prepare and 14! prioritize so our hearts are open to a celebration that touches us at a deep soul-level? 17! 18 ! This Seasonal Advent Celebration provides the answers! The following themes, at the 19! core of A Season of Wonder, are designed to help us open our hearts doors to all the excitement and amazement this season has to offer. We will learn to open the door to ! Gods plans, to friends and strangers, to silence and song, to divine encounters, to new 20! opportunities, and most importantly to Gods love for us. ! For when your heart is open and Gods love enters in, its not only Christmas that ! becomes a season of wonder, but every season of the year. Mainstay Ministries 21! 22! LETS OPEN OUR HEARTS DOORS! Merry Christmas 23! Pastor Dean and Marvalyn Kelly 26! 27! A Christmas Story Mini-VBS 28! ! On December 22, from 2:00-5:00 pm, Chapel will present a mini-VBS, titled A Christmas Story. Children grades preschool through sixth grade will learn all about the 29! Christmas Story, complete with live animals, wisemen, real gold, frankincense and myrrh, !
As adults, we long to experience the anticipation and excitement we see sparkling in little eyes. We want to hear the age-old account of Gods greatest gift and sacrice as if for the rst time and we hope it will touch our hearts. snacks, games, songs and more! Chapel kids are encouraged to invite all of their friends! At 5 pm, the entire community is invited to a supper in the fellowship hall served by the Volunteers. Immediately following the supper, the Children will present their program. All of the days events will be held at Chapel. We are looking forward to having the excitement of VBS at Chapel during the Christmas season! We are also excited to open the doors of our church to our entire community and show hospitality! As a special challenge for Chapel we are sending out two different colors of registration forms. The forms going home from school will be printed on white paper, but the registration forms sent home from Chapel will be printed on colored paper. Lets see how many children can be invited by a Chapel member! Lets put our hospitality talk into action! Forms will be in the narthex and should be returned to Ann, Heidi or Janine by December 8th.

You are the ofcial greeters - Greet guests/newcomers and make sure they are comfortable nding seats. Pass out bulletins to those already seated. Then, stand at door to hand out bulletins to those entering sanctuary. Also, give bulletins to those in overow and those who enter sanctuary from overow. Adjust fans, if needed. There is an automatic thermostat so you should not need to adjust. Ask two other people to stand at the side aisles to help gather the offering. Make sure speaker system is turned on - Open left door below secretarys door. If red light is not on by left/north wall, turn on switch (left of speaker system). 10:15 Check calendar for who lights candles. If acolytes do not volunteer by 10:20, ask any two youth who have been through conrmation. Make sure they wear the white robes. Help acolytes light their wicks (matches in secretarys desk or bring own) and send acolytes to front between 10:20-10:25 am. Light ALL candles through Easter. Tell them to turn off wicks coming back. You may need to turn off fans when acolytes go down or wicks may go out. They should light candles before praise team gathers so they have a place to walk. Remind acolytes to return to narthex when last hymn starts. Send them to altar during last verse. During offering Count church attendance and write number on the wall calendar on the correct day. Include all children and adults in one number, including those in childrens church. Stay at back until we start singing the doxology. During last song Make sure acolytes extinguish candles. Tell them to keep wicks lit until back in narthex. After benediction Turn off speaker system and fans. If possible, walk around sanctuary and throw away bulletins in hymn racks and put 2-3 hymnals & one Bible in each hymn rack. Communion is the rst Sunday of each month. Ask pastor how he wants communion served that day. Remind pastor to announce everyone is welcome to participate in communion. Usually Pastor Dean asks two people to hold cubed bread and two people to hold juice trays on each side of bread. Ushers invite people to come up front, starting in overow & then from back to front of sanctuary. People put empty juice cups in basket on front side tables. Serve handicapped people after others in pews, then musician, then ushers & pastor last. If you have any questions, please contact the 2014 head usher, Lee Cornwell, 641-752-0473, lcornwell@dybb.com. Thank you. CHILDRENS SERMONS 2014 Thank you for serving! Please trade if you have a conict with your time.
