The campus will retain its park like ambiance and provide a recreational setting for staff, students and the local community. Sustainability As part of its aim to contribute to environmental sustainability, the University has sunk bore holes for the ground heat pumps. The boreholes, which are 200 metres underground use the latent heat of the earth to heat or cool water to a constant 12 degrees which reduces the requirement for fossil fuels as the initial temperature change in the building is taken care of by the borehole system.

Transport and Travel Links The University has introduced several innovative and environmentally friendly travel schemes for the benet of its students and staff to help reduce the number of cars on the roads. Cycle Parking and Changing Facilities Cycle racks are located adjacent to the entrance of the Riverside East. For information about lockers and shower facilities please see the RGU Transport web pages. Bus Service From September 2013 there will be an average of 16 buses per hour from 0800-1800, travelling from the city centre to Garthdee and back, with additional buses at peak times. The No 1 service travels to Garthdee via Holburn Street then through campus, picking up and dropping off outside Riverside East plaza. The No.2 service travels along Broomhill Road and Auchinyell Road, accessing Garthdee Road from the west. Both services take approximately the same time to travel in each direction, so either service can be used to access the Campus.

19

Full timetables are available to view and download from the First website www.rstgroup. com/aberdeen and Real Time bus departure information will be available in the reception area. Car Sharing The University operates a car sharing scheme as part of its Green Travel Plan to encourage the reduction of vehicles travelling to its sites. The aims of the Car Share scheme are: to reduce the impact of single car occupancy on the local environment to offer staff and students an alternative to lone driving wherever possible to utilise the limited car parking resources as efciently as possible Car sharing is when two or more registered drivers, who reside at different addresses, share the journey to and from the University by car. A car share team can include both staff and students. Even if you are not a car driver, you can still use the online Car Share search to nd someone to share the journey with.

For more information on bus services, car parking, cycling facilities, and any other transport related issues, is available on the RGU Transport website at: www.rgu.ac.uk/transport or by contacting RGU Transport on 3318 or 2063.

Video Conferencing Video conferencing facilities will be available in a number of class rooms and meeting spaces at a later date. Should Staff require a room for Video conferencing, then please contact Estates Timetabling on 3308 or email your request to timetabling@rgu.ac.uk well in advance to ensure a room is available.

Visitors If you are expecting a visitor please advise building Reception who will be able to welcome your guest, issue a visitor ID and assist them signing in and out of the building. All visitors should sign in and out of the building. Prior to arrival it would be helpful if you informed visitors arriving by car and wishing to park they should park in a red visitors parking bay with the appropriate parking pass displayed. You may arrange for the appropriate parking pass prior to the arrival of your visitors by contacting 2277. The parking pass should be displayed in the vehicle to avoid any parking nes. Visitors should be collected at the Reception desk by a member of the School/Department.

20
