Matt Freeman Launches Campaign for MN House - 64B

Freeman will fight for a higher minimum wage, seniors and Minnesota's children; announces campaign co-chairs
ST.PAUL, MN - Today, community leader Matt Freeman announced his campaign for State Representative for House District 64B, currently held by Representative Michael Paymar. Rep. Paymar leaves big shoes to fill, especially when it comes to public safety and gun violence, and I am ready to continue the work that needs to be done for our district," Freeman stated. "I have always felt called to serve my community. Its in my blood. I've seen first-hand how good people working together can accomplish great things. We can and must make sure St. Paul moves forward. That is why I will seek the DFL endorsement to serve our district at the State Capitol." Freeman also announced his campaign will be co-chaired by current Saint Paul Ward 3 City Council Member Chris Tolbert and former Minnesota Nurses Association President Linda Slattengren. "Matt knows the issues facing Highland Park and Mac-Groveland, and he will be a great partner for our neighborhood and St. Paul, said Council Member Chris Tolbert. Most importantly, he is someone who knows how to bring people together in order to get things done. His collaborative style will help make progress on the important issues facing our community and state." Linda Slattengren went on to say, I've gotten to know Matt Freeman through our work in progressive politics. Matt is one of these rare people that turn their beliefs into action and results. I've seen it on countless progressive campaigns in our community and in his work with the city. I have seen how hard he works and his willingness to listen and bring people together. Matt has done an incredible job for us at the city and has been successful in improving our community." "Im proud of the work of the current DFL legislature and how they fought for and passed marriage equality and all-day kindergarten," Freeman continued. "But there is important work left to be done. Too many Minnesotans are struggling. We must raise the minimum wage. We have to ensure the livelihood of our seniors. And perhaps our most important work is to close, once and for all, the stubborn achievement gap in our schools." Freeman currently serves as Director of Outreach and Labor Relations in the Saint Paul Mayors Office. He served as Field and Political Director for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's 2012 successful Senate campaign and most recently served as Mayor Chris Colemans Campaign Manager during his successful 2013 re-election campaign. He has also worked previously in state government, both with the Legislature and the Department of Agriculture. He is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and lives in Highland Park. ###
