FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DOES MULTIJET PRINTING WORK? MultiJet Printing (MJP) is a rapid prototyping process that creates high-res, hard plastic parts with complex geometries and wax patterns for investment casting. Printed parts have smooth surfaces and exceptional feature details and mechanical properties suitable for study models, functional testing and other applications. The MJP process consists of a print head, platform, UV lamp, and a planarizer. Just like any 3D-printing machine, the process requires the file of a 3D model. The 3D printer then prints each layer of the file in UV curable liquid plastic or wax onto a flat platform. The wax support material is also jetted to fill voids and other nonfreestanding features. UV lamps flash to solidify the materials, creating a fully cured plastic or wax part.

free, melting and washing process. For additional colors and finishes, MJP parts can be painted, drilled, glued, machined, chrome-plated, or used for direct casting patterns. WHAT SIZE PART CAN IT PRINT? Maximum dimensions depend on the model of the machine. Most MJP machines print11.75 7.3 x 8in, but can print aslarge as 21.65 15.511.8inwiththe ProJet 5000. WHAT ARE THE APPLICATIONS FOR MJP? MJP plastic parts are used for functional testing, design communication, as functional parts or end-use

parts, and as rapid manufacturing and rapid tooling. Wax parts can be printed for direct investment casting patterns with outstanding precision and micro-detail for jewelry, apparel, medical devices and implants, electrical components, figurines, replicas, collectables and more. The type of material plays a major role in the application. For instance, VisiJet Crystal has a translucent finish, and provides a true plastic look and feel for a vast array of prototyping and end use applications. It is USP Class VI certified so it is ideal for medical applications. VisiJet M3 Black is a black,

durable plastic that looks and feels like injection molded plastic and allows for more rigorous testing. The material is suited for a variety of applications requiring snap fit and strength capability. VisiJet Navy, VisiJet Proplast, and VisiJet Techplast all provide an economical solution for general plastic models. The main difference between these plastics is the color, although there are some slight variations in material properties. VisiJet Procast provides direct micro-casting performance for a variety of applications such as extremely small and delicate medical instruments, devices, and other custom cast metal applications. VisiJet X provides the look, feel, and performance of injection molded ABS plastic. The material is ideal for prototyping and product mockups, as well as end use applications requiring extreme toughness and high temperature resistance. The material prints in a bright white finish. WHAT IS THE PART RESOLUTION AND ACCURACY? Accuracy may vary depending on build parameters, part geometry and size, part orientation, and postprocessing. Typically, the machines print standard tolerances of 0.001-0.002 inch per inch of part dimension. The layer thickness on the horizontal build layers can be as thin as 16 microns (0.0006 in.). The resolution of the layers on the xyz planes range from 375 x 375 x 790 DPI to 750 x 750 x 1600 DPI depending on the model of the machine.

Based on MultiJet Printing technology and available in 10 configurations with 11 performance VisiJet materials, the ProJet 3500 series are the most productive professional 3D printers. From affordable high definition to finely-detailed, accurate plastic parts and wax patterns, the ProJet 3500 series printers cater to the most demanding applications.
