Topic 1: Active & Passive Candidates

Active Candidates Active candidates are typically referred to as those in a job search They are actively looking for a new role. They can be unemployed or simply dissatisfied with their current position Job boards and advertising attempts have a track record of success attracting these job seekers Active candidates know you are hiring The majority of the online recruitment products and services are designed with these candidates in mind Passive Candidates Passive candidates are not actively looking for a new position They are satisfied in their current position. The best search firms are typically experts at engaging passive candidates in a 1:1 approach Passive candidates do not know you are hiring They are not looking on recruitment websites, they are not reading the classifieds in the newspaper, nor are they doing anything else that involves job seeking However, what makes these people candidates is that, if a better opportunity came along they might just take it.

Why Passive candidates?

Passive candidates are considered to be more desirable because it is assumed they are performing well at their jobs and feel generally fulfilled Passive candidate embodies many of the desirable characteristics the recruiters seek Passive candidates are usually more stable in their current job and company Are less demanding because they might be perceived to more easily handle the ups and downs that every company goes through There is a stronger likelihood that passive candidates are more loyal and committed they arent found online surfing job boards Our value-added ROI of finding great candidates is not in blanketing job boards with postings and merely collecting resumes to redistribute but to leverage our network and make those everdreaded cold-calls For recruiters, finding and placing passive candidates are extremely important because this is what ultimately validates our existence in the eyes of our clients
