Introduction: What is a Project ? In simple terms it is a group of people (Team) executing multiple tasks within an established time frame in order to achieve specific objectives. Having said that we can assume that if we are capable of bringing together: A Team to work on multiple Tasks within an established Time frame in order to achieve specific Objectives: We can consider ourselves as Project Managers
Working within a Team environment is a Skill. In the first stages of Project Management you will have to be able to integrate within a team. This means you will be part of a team not lead a team. Getting the right people for the right tasks is essential: Getting people to work in a coordinated / Harmonious manor is essential. One of the most difficult things in business is moving people. Team Management & leadership approach is essential.
The W.W.W.W.H. concept is applied. The Task is associated with a project step / phase, person, function & responsibility. For proper Task Management you need to be the specialist. Identify the tools you need to execute your Tasks. Identify the in line / main line functions & the sub project functions in order to assure overall project performance. Interpersonal skills are essential for proper communication / negotiation to assure your Tasks get completed & on time.
Be very clear & specific about the Results (Multiple). Develop a positive results balance: Market , Financial ,Product for example. Develop & obtain a common motivation with the team players Managing the project scope is an essential part of + Results. 100% project involvement with the key players. Identify & manage potential Risks Project results are managed throughout the project cycle and not at the project end.
The project scope is linked to a specific time frame. Project check points must be respected to assure proper transition towards the next steps or phase. A linear progressive approach is applied to each project step. Certain project steps are however are overlapping. The concept of time is influence by culture and particularly important within multicultural working environments. The one single most repeated mistake in Project Management is being late.

The F.M.C.G. sector will be one of our focus points along with specialized S.M.E. companies. In other words our Project Management approach will be orientated with this type of activity. Some specific industry examples with the F.M.C.G.s sector are: - Toy products - House hold products - Fashion / Leisure Products - Entertainment Products - Sport products - School products - Craft products - Cosmetic Products
-These
types of products are often associated with a short retail shelf life ex: 1 to 30 days types of products are often associated with a low to mid price point ex: 24.99 129.99 -These types of products are often considered as No think products ex: I like it ! I buy it !

Overview: Within the project LAUNCH notion it is absolutely necessary to have a total understanding of what our overall objectives are. Some points to consider are:
-Is
this a New, Ongoing, Innovative type of project. -How are we financing the project. -Project Time frames. -The structure, -The organization -The size of the project -Outside consulting services required -The location -Is their an established project manager

Specialized Activities ex: Freelance Market analysis. This would be an outside marketing expert having a specific mission to study bench mark product in a specific country, segment and product category. Develop the context: Sub Project Activities ex: Special events management to assure maximum awareness at a specific trade show. Develop the context:
The Project Scope is a term used over and over again and throughout the project. As a starting point we could say the scope develops the nature of the project. This the project layout and should be supported by a visual. (V.T.T.). - It defines what a project does and does not do. - The project scope should be supported with a project matrix. - The scope identifies special services and required expertise (in-house or freelance). - The different steps within the project need to be prioritized. - We need to agree on how we are going to evaluate the project performance. - Adapt the W.W.W.W. H. concept
4 Team Building
Philippe Reed
Overview:
Team building and leadership programs go hand in hand. Getting the right people in place which means getting your people operational is crucial to project management. Individual skills and expertise should be maximized (the right person in the right place) to assure effective project execution. In building your team there are several different factors which should be considered such as:
-Build
a project team platform. (the 5 line management functions) which is the: Breakdown Structure (W.B.S.) global understanding through out the team. (the W.W.W.W.H. concept). a common motivation throughout the team and its functions. (agreement process)
-Work
-Develop
-Develop
For successful Team Building the project manager should pay particular attention to the following points and adapt the appropriate method for the betterment of the overall project. -Communication: With and towards each team player on the project scope, different roles, functions and responsibilities. -Culture: Take into consideration different cultures especially within an multi cultural working environment. -Adaptability: The project manager should be flexible at all time throughout the product and will be required to adapt certain approaches based on individual needs. -Goals: Identify and highlight the overall and individual goals to be obtain throughout the project. -Harmony: Generate an overall harmonious working environment. -Motivation: Assure that each player has a motivating role within the project. -Common Business interest: generate a common business interest throughout the team to assure a strong team spirit. -Support: Assure each team player that you provide total support and reinforce the need for individual support with other team players.
To conclude on Team Building and a leadership approach: Project management is about systems, methods, approach, objectives, goals, profit etc. but for me its really about people. To assure your Team is working in a balanced, harmonious, motivated way you need to show and administer: Full Commitment Show AVA: Building the project team

The Kick off meeting or start-up meeting terminology could be a little deceiving as their has been a lot of work already completed. The Team is already established. What it usually indicates is that: the clock is turning. So from now on we need to stay on schedule. The principle back bone, corner stone, pillar (just expressions) of the kick off is the Project SCOPE. The kick off is not just one meeting it could be several meetings both individual and team meetings. - Get the key people together in the right environment at the right time. - Develop the individual steps / responsibilities and explain how they interface. - Develop the common motivation through a successful project. - Establish your self as the Project Manager.
Operational Planning: The Planning Process: Tasks: We are now have the established Team so we can assign, establish, appoint, confirm all project tasks. Again the implementation of the W.W.W.W.H. concept. Schedule: The schedule or overall timing of a project should could be a bottom up approach or top down approach. Explain: Each project phase or step must have an associated step by step time frame. Budget: At this start-up stage a budget subject to check points throughout the project would be good practice. If you present an overall budget it must be supported by details such as: Internal expense External expense Equipment Salaries Travel & entertainment Special purchases Cash reserve Contingincy
Agreement & the go ahead process: Extra emphasis on the importance of this process. Agreement within project management is a principle action and project step necessary towards managing successful projects. Getting agreement is much more than a simple nod or OK from the boss. If we want to measure our state on agreement we could look at it like this: The Process Agreement Go Ahead Support Develops the Yes I agree lets do it notion This is not sufficient. Go Ahead shows involvement in the start-up or kick off in addition to Agreement Develops the notion of: Yes I agree, lets go ahead, I will support you with the project.
Commitment Is a project managers best support. Having your boss & team in agreement and supplying the necessary support and commitment is an extraordinary Project Added Value.
6 Project Implementation
Philippe Reed
This is our building phase or Installation / Application Phase or W.I.P. Phase (Work in Progress) We can assume we have all the tools necessary to get to work. What that means is managing the project scope. One of the first things I suggest is to reinforce the Market Analysis step of the project. The market study (I will give a specific approach) has a scope in its self. Depending on the overall project time frame this could be a limited scope. I conceder the Market Analysis as the stepping stone towards building product. Some of the principle elements within the Market analysis are: - Bench Mark (Brands) - Bench Mark ( Products) - Segmentations - Price Points - Volumes

7 Project Results
Philippe Reed
Overview: Project results are firstly developed in the start-up phase: in the Mission Statement (step 1) and confirmed in the Project Platform (step 3). What we have set out to achieve (our objectives) This process (Project Results) is not developed at the end of a project. This process should be started after check point 2.
Project Results are built around our Project Added Values (our Story) This should be a balanced approach which includes the overall project elements in a progressive comprehensive manner.
Results focus points should be: Market developments Product developments Financial developments Organizational developments And finely set the path for Future Business Opportunities A successful Project Never Ends
Philippe Reed
The Future Business Opportunities Approach is probably the most powerful of all within Project
Management. Successful projects should always lead to project extensions or new projects.
F.B.O. opens the doors for simply said future projects with an orientation towards: -New Markets -New Product -New Distribution -New Business Partners
Ongoing project developments are at the heart of international business strategies. The approach and methods applied within successful project management programs are key towards dynamic international growth. The F.B.O. Approach should be developed in collaboration and sequentially with your Project Results Approach

The decision making process needs to be adapted to each individual as we may have different ideas and values. Some important guidelines however allow us to enhance this process towards our business and project objectives. This integrated approach is particularly effective within a dynamic project and management environment. A progressive approach towards getting people to make decisions relative to your business objectives is essential and proves to be effective. Often immediate and forced decisions are not made in your favor or put off towards a non decision. Getting people to do what you want them to do some my say requires force or luck. This is not a management approach. A Concept, Approach and Method is part of a managerial system allowing you to move people and move forward with your project.
Step 1
Apply a step by step process towards assuring that your audience has a comprehensive and complete understanding of your presentation.
Transmit first of all the Concept(What you want to do) to the key person before the key people The Team in a formatted appropriate language. This assures we are :
We can enhance this approach towards full understanding through creating the necessary context, environment and atmosphere. Develop A comfort Zone
Step 2
This phase involves the transition from complete understanding of the overall situation to taking action. The V.T.T. approach is particularly effective at this stage. This creates a force which links imagination to feel, perception and allows an individual selfawareness process to be developed and appreciated. The image in my mind At this stage we must reinforce the importance of deleating Sub Problems and concentrate on the business applications at hand. This W.I.P. approach should be focused within a specific time frame.
Step 3 Working within a common business interest brought together through the Platform and the key people generates a working environment which establishes reasoning and common business sense. This positions ourselves within a working expertise which generates confidence at a high level in order to make decisions towards our project management process and Future Business Opportunities .
Once we have presented our objectives it is important to highlight the need for a decision on the matter at hand in order to move forward. Now, today, not tomorrow We have Understanding, confidence, agreement, We need The go Ahead You have the capacity to make repairable mistakes
Philippe Reed
The Thoughts and Concepts approach is designed to help assure that you master the necessary Project Management terms. To assist you in developing each term and concept in a comprehensive structured format. To be able to develop talk about Project Management in an intelligent manner To use (develop) the thoughts & concepts throughout your assignment & exam
W.W.W.W.H.
This Concept is particularly effective and should be adapted when presenting new ideas or working methods. If you can answer the W.W.W.W.H. questions you have basically covered all of the pertinent aspects of your new working desires. In other words think through first: Who is going to do What, When, Where and How
The Scope:
The scope is basically the size and content of the project at hand. It could be the total project Scope or the Scope of just one step within the project. For example if a marketing project (one step within the total project) consists of: - Bench marking - Product analysis - Volumes - Price Points -Technical Descriptions This would be the Scope of the marketing project (or step) which is actually a limited scope.
Fast
The project cycle within the F.M.C.G.s sector is very fast. This means the ongoing product development along with the complete logistics of the business is Fast. 2 cycles per year.
