Celebrate and Give Thanks for Our Fruitful Bounty on Thanksgiving Day On BLACK FRIDAY and Small Business BLACK SATURDAY and Throughout the Holiday Season Shop and Dine at our Local Establishments and

Buy Local

We all know that the Holiday shopping season officially starts on Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving. But Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday (the biggest online shopping day of the season) is what has become known as SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY. It is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. Last year over one hundred million people came together to shop SMALL in their communities on Small Business Saturday. This year it falls on November 30th, 2013. And we are encouraging you to make it even bigger this year by shopping in your hometown & surrounding communities that Saturday. This day was introduced 4 years ago by American Express to encourage people to think about doing their holiday shopping at a local business. You can go to the American Express website for more information on the program. Shopping locally keeps tax money in our county, it keeps jobs here, it gives business owners the opportunity to earn a living here, it keeps our business districts viable & attractive, it saves you gasoline & saves you time, it provides friendly and caring service to the customer, it provides you with quality specialty items that cant be found in mall stores and often they are locally produced items, which further sustains our local economy. We are calling Small Business Saturday Small Business Black Saturday. Lets make this the best holiday season for our local businesses throughout our communities by starting your holiday shopping here on Friday, Nov 29th and Saturday, Nov 30th and beyond.

They have awesome hickory products which include two different hickory syrups, hickory salts, hickory elixir, tea, gift baskets, etc. There is no other company in New York that produces these types of products and only a handful in the US. They are a small family owned business and they get all products locally. A truly wonderful company to do business with and I highly recommend trying the syrup. Napaul Publishers, Inc. November 27, 2013 WARRENSBURGH MUSEUM CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS IN WARRENSBURGH Saturday and Sunday, December 7 & 8 the Warrensburgh Museum of Local History will join Warrensburg businesses and organizations during the 25th anniversary of Christmas in Warrensburgh celebration. The museum will be open both days from 10 am to 4 pm. Home-made refreshments provided by members of Warrensburgh Historical Society will be served all day. Admission is free. This weekend will serve as the official opening of the Bicentennial Holiday Exhibit entitled Dollhouses and Room Boxes. Numerous examples loaned by community members for the duration of this exhibit range from fancy look-dont-touch units to well-handled come-play-withme houses that have seen several generations of occupants. Both commercially built and home-made products will be represented. A historic overview of dollhouses will also be presented, as well as pages of workbooks and catalogs of commercial offerings. This exhibit will be on view through January 15, after which all entrants will be returned to owners. During this occasion the museum will be decorated for the Holidays, and regular exhibit personnel will be dressed in their winter finery. A separate exhibit will feature photos and artifacts commemorating the 25th anniversary of Christmas in Warrensburgh. This annual event began in 1989 and is sponsored by Warrensburgh Beautification, Inc. As part of this celebration, Santa Claus is expected to visit the Museum on Sunday afternoon. Special refreshments and several activities for kids are planned during the visit. The Museum Book Corner also offers numerous books on local history, as well as gift items for holiday shoppers. HELP STOCK THE GREEN MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS GIFT ROOM AT THE CHRISTIAN CENTER- Green Mountain Christian Center announces the Sixth Annual Green Mountain Christmas on Dec. 20 and 21, at Green Mountain Christian Center (GMCC), 440 Main St. Bennington, Vermont. The plans include the Gift Room for Parents in Need, gift wrapping, and crafts for the children, Christmas music, cookies and refreshments, and other Christmastide activities The Gift Room for parents in need is at the center of the activities. Green Mountain Christian Center will do its best again this year to fill the toy gap, but we will obviously need help. You can donate toys or cash to help stock the GIFT ROOM where parents in need can select presents for their children ages 10 and under. Thanks to the generosity of many businesses and individuals in this community, Christmas 2012 was a huge success providing local parents with gifts for their children. We were able to help over 250 parents with toys for approximately 500 children from throughout the Southwestern Vermont region, Bennington, Pownal, Woodford, Shaftsbury, Arlington, Hoosick Falls, White Creek and others. Given the continued economic difficulties we expect the need has increased, so we are planning to assist 200-300 parents (500600 local children). Donations can be mailed or delivered to Green Mountain Christian Center, 440 Main St. Bennington, VT (office in rear). The office is open Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 9 am to 3:30 pm and on Monday & Thursday 9am to 12 noon. Parents in need should call the Green Mountain Christian Center office at 802-447-7224 for a reservation before December 21, 2013.

ON THE FARM
by Andy Manne
The partys over for the corn market, and smart producers are locking in prices well into 2015, says one market analyst. The boom times have ended. And smart producers are forward contracting their crops and locking in prices well into 2015 to ensure some level of profit. There will be a tremendous readjustment that plays out over the next five years, says Dan Basse, president of AgResouce Company in Chicago. Corn producers have become accustomed to making $200 to $400 per acre above breakeven. Going forward, Basse says, average income over cost levels will land somewhere between a $30 profit and a $30 loss. Whats happened is that everyone in the ag industry has had his hand in the farmers pocket, says Basse. Fertilizer costs, land rents, machinery and equipment costs have all combined to raise the breakeven on corn to somewhere between $4.35 and $4.85 per bushel, he says. The key point is that the cost side is where the farmer is being squeezed, he adds. Basse expects spot corn prices, Chicago, to drop to $3.50 in 2014, and then to as low as $2.75, possibly lower, by 2015. While the price plateau for corn is higher than it was before ethanol, it wont be anywhere near as high as it was between 2005, when the ethanol boom began, and 2012, when corn prices peaked. We think the new plateau for corn prices is $2.75 to $5.50, says Basse. If Basse is right and corn prices fall to predicted levels as yields return to trend levels, land prices are also likely to plunge. I dont know how someone will be able to afford the land rents that people are getting today, he says. (A word of causion: dont take so-called experts word for it..do your research carefully.)
