ABSTRACT Title : CORRELATION OF ORAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AND NUTRITIONAL STATUS OF GERIATRIC CLIENTS: BASIS FOR HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM Researchers : JOHN CARLO T. PURINO PRINCESS G. ROSITA EVANGELINE A. VALENCIA Adviser Course : ALLAN O. DIMAANO, RN, RM, MAN : BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING

The researchers focused on the Correlation of Oral Health Problems on the Nutritional Status of Geriatric Clients: Basis for Enhancement Program. Degeneration of teeth occurred during the aging process. In connection with this, the nutritional intake of geriatric clients was greatly affected. Geriatric clients from Barangay Marawoy, Lipa City were the respondents in this study. This study made use of the descriptive method with the survey questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument and informal interview as supplement. There were a total of 100 respondents from Barangay Marawoy, Lipa City. The respondents were chosen through simple random sampling method The statistical tools used in the interpretation and analysis of data and information gathered were weighted mean, ranking, correlation coefficient and Ttest.

Findings revealed that most frequent age group was 60-64 years old and most of the geriatric clients were males. Most of the respondents had complete or full dentures. In terms of nutritional status, most of them were at moderate risk. Null hypothesis was rejected. There is significant relationship between the oral health problems and nutritional status of geriatric clients. It was recommended that the school of nursing should strengthen their programs in the community with regard to oral health thru linkages in the government and non-government sectors of the society. Emphasis on the benefits of good oral health should be discussed while at younger age. There must be a collaborative action between the non-government organizations and government organizations with regard to oral health of the elderly. Oral health educations must be emphasized in the barangay level with the help of local government unit.
