OUR MISSION
The mission of SFJAZZ Education is to reach, develop and nurture current and future musicians and audiences by providing rich, innovative, interactive and informative programming in jazz appreciation, creation and performance within our diverse communities.
In San Francisco, we are lucky enough to not only have Tilson Thomas at our ngertips but to have SFJAZZ in our backyard

OUR PARTNERS
SFJAZZ Education works closely with Bay Area peer organizations and schools to create exciting programs for people of all ages. Our partners include the Jazz Heritage Center, the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, Museum of the African Diaspora, Out Of Site, Old Skool Cafe, SF Unified School District, The Jazzschool, Yerba Buena Arts & Events, Youth Speaks, and others.
OUR FACULTY
SFJAZZ Education connects students of all ages and levels with some of the leading figures in jazz education. Stellar faculty and clinicians include members of the SFJAZZ Collective, members of our Resident Artistic Directors, as well as Terence Blanchard, Michel Camilo, Faye Carol, Paul Contos, Taylor Eigsti, Peter Erskine, Mimi Fox, Vijay Iyer, Kitty Margolis, Rebeca Maulen, Marcus Shelby, Adam Theis, Linda Tillery, Wayne Wallace, Dann Zinn, and many others.

SFJAZZ IN THE COMMUNITY
This free program provides clinics and workshops to Bay Area middle and high schools throughout the year, offering hands-on instruction by jazz masters and strengthening our partnerships with Bay Area schools while enabling the recruitment of talented and diverse students for the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars program.

DISCOVER JAZZ
This dynamic program offers music appreciation classes for adults, providing entertaining and informative insights into jazz music, history and culture through live performance in addition to multimedia presentation and audience Q&A, and is also offered in partnership with the Museum of the African Diaspora and the Jazz Heritage Center.

FAMILY MATINEES
Family Matinees feature performances by acclaimed musicians with an emphasis on learning for the entire family and designed for children in grades K-5, including post-matinee interactive workshops that provide opportunities to learn about jazz from some of its greatest living masters. Free tickets are available to Bay Area school groups.

PRE-CONCERT TALKS
During every concert season, SFJAZZ Education hosts intimate conversations with renowned performing artists prior to select performances, providing deep insight into the world of jazz through on-stage discussions and dialogues with the performers, and fostering an appreciation for the artists music and creative process.

JAZZ IN SESSION
This free program supports jazz performance and learning opportunities for public middle school ensembles by providing needed supplies and repertoire as well as clinics by jazz masters. A primary goal of the program is to offer professional development opportunities to band directors as well as school administrators.

DISCOVER JAZZ STUDENT
INSTRUCTION
Musicians of all ages will have the opportunity to study with the finest jazz and world music faculty. Each year group instruction will vary according to the particular instruments offeredfrom guitar and woodwinds to brass and percussion, while individual lessons will feature renowned educators and occur on an independent basis.
THE MUSIC OF
This three-class series brings audiences closer to the magic of jazz through the enormous contribution of some of the musics most prolific and singular artists, such as Thelonious Monk, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ella Fitzgerald and others, incorporating audio and video examples, live demonstration and performance.
VOCAL ENSEMBLE
The SFJAZZ Vocal Ensemble is a program devoted to exploring and performing a repertoire of contemporary jazz and world music within a highly improvisational context. This program will allow singers selected by auditionto find their voice in a supportive environment while developing an understanding of myriad styles and techniques.
DIGITAL LAB
The SFJAZZ Digital Lab offers teens and adults instruction in digital music production, theory and musicianship, MIDI basics, notation skills, sequencing and audio recording. Students will explore software-based tools while gaining an understanding of essential music skills to create their own music.
THE ART OF
This participatory program will allow musicians to tackle specific performance techniques while giving general audiences a fascinating window into how music makers adopt new skills. From the art of the organ trio to the fundamentals of improvisation, students will gain a deeper understanding of jazz music.
