Task description: Set up main site compound and carry out works ACTIVITY
General protection

HAZARDS
Site hazards to public from plant, equipment, substances, materials and site facilities.

CONTROL MEASURES
Ensure entire perimeter fenced or closed to public Anti climb fencing (min 30mm) or closed hoardings Perimeter signing: "Construction Site Danger Keep Out" to be displayed on perimeter. Erect main company display sign system at entrance. Visitors to report to site office and sign visitors register Out of hours: -Lockable gates secured -Secure all huts/containers -Remove and secure ladders from excavations, scaffolds etc.. -Secure hazardous substances, LPG etc -Ensure all works are stable, secure material stockpiles and tidy site before cease works -All plant and machinery secured and immobilized

Ensure entry/exit points from site allow for adjoining road conditions and use; signs; traffic control; visibility mirrors. Establish pedestrian & vehicle routes and where practicable demarcate with fencing if adjacent. Establish a 1 way system if practicable Locate storage to remove or minimize reversing & handling Vehicles fitted with reversing alarms Adequate compound lighting Unstable ground; route away or bridge existing culverts or ducts; weak surfaces lay hardcore or other temporary surfacing.

Lifting operations

Sufficient First Aiders (4 day) min 1 per site and additional Signed first aid point(s) each with first aid kit & eye wash station. Hospital A&E location map and display Ensure details included in site induction's Site installations must be inspected, tested and commissioned prior to 12 use and tested and certificated at max 3 month intervals Ensure installation and removal is by qualified electricians only Ensure mains distribution cabinets are locked at all times Ensure operatives carry out pre-use checks (visual inspection) Ensure monthly inspection of all portable appliances and record Suitable and sufficient lifting appliance with regard to load and reach. Ensure site huts are not overloaded with stores Lifting appliance 7 day inspection register & certificates in date Provide sufficient trained Banksman and Slingers Adequate access including swing area free of obstructions; particular regard for overhead cables and safe clearances 12 Stability of ground including use of outriggers & grillages if wheeled crane and consideration of weak surface or subsurface conditions i.e. culverts, ducts & access chambers Ensure area kept clear of persons not involved during lifting Wear safety helmets, hi-vis vests and working gloves
