2012 Shrine Bowl Coaches Announced


Ron Long, Athletic Director of the Shrine Bowl Of The Carolinas recently announced the coaches selections for the 2012 North Carolina Tar Heels and the South Carolina Sandlappers. These Coaches have been selected and approved to coach their respective teams in the 76th annual Shrine Bowl Game to be played on Saturday, December 15th at beautiful Gibbs Stadium on the campus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina..

2012 Shrine Bowl Combines


Kelly Adams, Shrine Bowl Combine Coordinator announced the following combine schedule for 2012: Purpose: To provide opportunity for high school football players to demonstrate skills needed for athletic scholarships and possible Shrine Bowl selection. Who: Rising 12th graders are eligible to attend. This means only current Juniors are eligible to attend. Cost: $20.00 per player. High School Coaches and spectators will be admitted free. There will be no checks accepted at any of the combines, cash only please. There will Shrine Bowl staff at each combine to collect registration fees. To be measured: 1. Height 2. Weight To be tested: 1. Vertical Jump 2. 40 Yard Dash 3. Pro Agility Shuttle 4. Bench Press Rep. (All position players will rep 185 lbs as many times as they can.) To be evaluated: Important Information: 1. Each athlete is to attend only one combine for NCAA purposes. 2. Some events may change according to equipment available. 3. Rising seniors should bring videos for the Shrine Bowl Coaching Staff to evaluate.

NOBLE RONNIE L. BLOUNT ELECTED AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE SHRINE BOWL OF THE CAROLINAS
Ronnie L. Blount, Hope Mills, NC was elected as Chairman, Board of Governors of the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas at the annual meeting held at the Hope Mills Shrine Club on February 25th. Noble Ronnie is a member of Sudan Shrine and was the 2011 President of the Board of Governors. He has served on the Board of Governors since 2007. He also has served as the 2nd Vice Game Chairman for the Shrine Bowl Game. Blount replaces Illustrious Sir William, R. Billy Benfield of Hejaz Shrine who served as the Chairman of the Board since 2007.

In addition to Noble Blount the following Nobles were elected to the Executive Board: PresidentDon Addyman PP, Jamil Shrine; 1st VPConnie Altman PP, Amran Shrine; 2nd VPJamie Smith, Hejaz Shrine; 3rd VP Brack Wilson PP, Sudan Shrine; and 4th VP John McClary, Jr. PP, Omar Shrine. Nobles John Davidson, Jr. and Henry Long were reelected to their offices as Secretary and Treasurer. Noble Blount appointed Ray Fields PP, Amran Shrine as the Chaplain. The following were elected as Members at Large: Dennis Craven, William Dyches and Riley McDaniel from Omar Shrine; Tony Edwards, Conrad Benton The officers were installed by Illustrious Sir Steve Norris, Potenand Jeff Taylor from Sudan Shrine; Jerry Baxter tate of Sudan Shrine. Matthews, Ben Harmon and Charles Britt from Amran Shrine. The potentate, chief rabban and recorder from each shrine center are members of the board by virtue of their shrine center office. Nobles Ron Johnson, Amran Shrine and Ronnie Blount, Sudan Shrine were elected to Emeritus Member at Large status. The board also voted to send a donation of $40,000 to the Shriners Hospitals from the proceeds of the 2011 game. The board also approved a budget for 2012.

TWO NEW INDUCTEES INTO HALL OF FAME


At the Volunteer Awards Banquet held at the Hope Mills Shrine Club on Saturday night, February 25, Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Ray Fields PP and Past President announced that Noble French Harvey and Noble Mac McCallister were selected to the Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2011. The Hall of Fame was created in 2005 in recognition of outstanding service to the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas without whose support this game would not have been played. Noble French Harvey joined the volunteer staff of the Shrine Bowl during the 1999 game week and served as the coaches and volunteer hospitality chairman for six years. Beginning in 2001 he became the game day director, coordinating the pregame and half-time activities. He writes the scripts for the awards banquet and the game day activities. In 2004 he began serving as the Shrine Bowl Administrator responsible for maintaining a sports information database on Shrine Bowl coaches and players. He also coordinates the nomination process for player selection.
Noble French Harvey received the Hall of Fame from Ray Fields PP/Past President and Connie Altman PP.

He became a Master Mason in Flint, Michigan and became a Shriner in 1980 in Aloha Shrine in Honolulu, Hawaii. He became a Shrine Clown and has been a member of shrine clown units in Aloha Shrine, Hawaii; Zurah Shrine, Minneapolis, MN and Oasis Shrine, Charlotte. He is currently the Captain of the Oasis Shrine Clowns and has served as President of the South Atlantic Shrine Clown Association. He also served as the Director of the Oasis Shrine Circus for 10 years. He is Past Master of James K. Polk Masonic Lodge in Pineville, NC and served as the lodge secretary for five years. French is also an associate member of Hejaz Shrine, Mauldin, SC. He is a charter member of the Oasis Shrine Golf Club where he served as secretary for five years and is currently a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 109, Charlotte, NC. French is a retired U.S. Navy Officer who served 23 years and then taught Naval JROTC in a Charlotte high school for 17 years. Noble Mac McCallister has served as the chairman of the Shrine Bowl media and press box committee for nine years. In this capacity he coordinates all press and media contact during the game. He and his committee issue all of the press credentials and are responsible for the operations of the stadium press box. Noble Mac is an Emeritus Member of the Shrine Bowl of Governors, he serve eight years as a Member-At-Large for Amran Shrine. He also serves as the Parliamentarian for the Shrine Bowl Board of Governors. Mac lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina and is a member of Amran Shrine. He is also a member of the Triangle Shrine Club where Noble Mac McCallister recived Hall of Fame from General he served as President, and now serves on the Game Chairman Connie Altman their Board of Directors, He is Past Director

of Amrans Ceremonial Cast, Past Director of Amran Shrine, and Past Chief Aide for three Potentates. Mac is Past Director of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 106, Raleigh, NC. He is Past Master of Oak Grove Masonic Lodge and a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Mrs. Betty Hately, who has served as the Shrine Bowl office manager since 2007 retired on February 28th. Mrs. Hately had retired once before in 2004 after having served as the Shrine Bowl secretary for over 30 years. When Billy Benfield became Chairman of the Board in 2007 he asked Betty to come out of retirement and work at the office in Fort Mill on a part-time basis. Betty also worked as an office manager for her son-in-law, a Charlotte dentist. For anyone who has been associated with the Shrine Bowl for over thirty years, they will know and respect the work ethic and knowledge of Mrs. Hately. She will be missed by the Board of Governors and Game Committee. A personnel committee has been formed by Chairman of the Board Ronnie Blount to seek a replacement.

SHRINE BOWL VOLUNTEERS RECOGNIZED


Billy Benfield PP, Chairman of the Board, and Connie Altman PP, General Game Chairman, recognized many volunteers who assisted with the 2011 Shrine Bowl game in December. and presented awards as shown below. The awards banquet was attended by over 80 volunteers at the Hope Mills Shrine Club on February 25th. In recognition of their support to the game, Chairman Altman presented each of the supporting Shrine Centers with a Walt Disney Award. President Ronnie Blount presented Henry Long with the Presidents Award for Volunteer of the Year. Other awards and who they were presented to are:
