Padre Ray

A SPECIAL INVITATION FROM BISHOP GARCIA: “To the People of God in the Diocese of Monterey: The
Most Reverend Richard J. Garcia, Bishop of Monterey, invites you to join him in honoring all Franciscan Priests,
Brothers and Sisters on the 800th Anniversary of the Approval of the Rule of St. Francis (Founder of the Franciscan
Order).
This year is also the 225th Anniversary of the death of Blessed Junipero Serra. As the two anniversaries coin-
cide, Bishop Garcia will preside at a Novena at our California Missions and at St. Paul Apostle Church, Pismo Beach,
which is entrusted to the care of the Conventual Franciscans.
Everyone is invited to attend these events in honor of the Institution of the Order of St. Francis and Blessed Ju-
nipero Serra. Bishop Garcia will be granting a partial indulgence for those who attend at least three of the novena
events. Please join us. A reception will follow each event:”
IMPORTANT ANOUNCEMENT: The Parish Hall is scheduled to open this fall and with it comes an obligation to conform to
fire and safety exiting requirements. The General Manager of the San Miguel Community Services District, and the Fire Chief, re-
quire that we observe the following without exception for all facilities open to the public, that is, the Parish Hall and the present site
of daily and weekend Mass, the winery and/or our Temporary Chapel:
Disabled persons, persons requiring the use of walkers and persons requiring movement in wheelchairs who attend events
in either the Parish Hall or the winery are to be situated at the rear of these facilities, immediately to the side of the main exit of the
facility. In the case of the winery and/or Temporary Chapel, wheelchairs will be located in the last row to the immediate left of the
entrance when facing the altar. The same placement will be used within the Parish Hall. Wheelchairs are not to be brought to the
front of either facility lest they block egress for the majority of the parishioners. Communion will be brought to those who are
walker or wheelchair bound. This should be implemented immediately. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Ray Tintle, OFM
Youth Group “Ejército de Cristo”— Have started their meetings every Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Parish Classroom.

pies will be greatly appreciated. For any questions, please call Rosemary Fryer at 610-9887.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK……
When we think of our best friends, our most intimate and deep relationships, we
know these relationships did not just happen. Developing relationships takes time, work,
and commitment. We explore our feelings and beliefs as well as those of our friends as
we communicate with each other. We learn to trust and gain confidence in the faithful-
ness of our friends.
Our relationships with God are a little different. God already loves us. God invites
us to forsake foolishness and live with wisdom and understanding. We need only respond
to God’s invitation. Our response involves the same commitment as our relationships
with close friends. Yet we can trust that God loves us unconditionally; he loved us even
before we accepted his invitation to be in relationship with him.
We grow in our relationship with Christ in many ways, the most intimate being
when we receive Holy Communion. Then we go forth from God’s house to share what
we have received.
Saint Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians this week urges good behavior. He reminds us
that we are to do what God asks. As we accept this offer of the greatest of gifts of his Son
Jesus Christ, we turn away from foolish ways of acting and seek to live as wise people
filled with the Spirit of Jesus Christ.
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live
forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh” (John 6:51).
QUESTION FOR THE WEEK: How do I celebrate the wisdom and understand God of-
fers?

Dios nos in-
