Ancient Echoes The Chakra Power Chant

By chanting all of the chakra sounds continuously in one breath, you will awaken and unravel the latent energies that are solidified within the unconscious. This energy is also called Kundalini, and is often depicted symbolically by a snake because of the snake-like motion that it follows as it travels up and around the spine. In the Awakening the Chakras CD on Spiritlegend.com we explore the individual chakra sounds and learn how to awaken the chakras, our psycho-physiological centers. If you have not already done so, you may explore the Awakening the Chakras CD first, before you engage in the Chakra Power Chant. The end goal of learning the individual chakra sounds is to be able to put them all together in one continuous upward sweep, to bring conscious vibration to our whole being. It is important when awakening any energy that it is accompanied by a proportionate increase in consciousness. This is the balance of Shakti (energy/ feminine/ moon/ Yin) and Shiva (consciousness/ masculine/ sun/ Yang). As you chant the vowel sound associated with each chakra, bring your awareness to the energy center associated with each chakra (see chart below).

The frequency or pitch of each sound is not written in stone. We have chosen a pitch for the chakra power chant that most people can utilize. You may find that matching the fundamental drone works for you or you may choose a note such as a 3rd, 5th, or another octave. In general the lower pitches or lower frequencies tend to resonate in the lower chakras, and higher pitches and higher frequencies resonate in the upper chakras. The more one chants and observes the vibrations within, the more overtones or harmonics one starts to produce. With a strong intention, eventually it becomes possible to resonate all of the chakras with a single tone, creating harmonics throughout the body. Tibetan monks who have been chanting for many years often have one very deep fundamental tone which also produces many higher harmonics. Similar vowel-focused chants can be found in many of the great religious traditions. For example the mantra AUM is used in various forms throughout the Hindu, Buddhist and Tibetan traditions. The chakra vowel chants in this recording can be thought of as a more comprehensive AUM sound (which is often pronounced ahhh-uuuummmm). In the Christian tradition, a similar mantra amen has been used traditionally in chanting and prayer. In the Cabbalist tradition the vowel sounds represent the sacred name of God (Yahweh), the name which can not be spoken because it must be experienced at the vibratory level. If you sound out the word Yahweh you will find it is very similar to the chakra vowel chant on this CD. In the Egyptian tradition, the name of the deity Amun Re (Ahhh mun Rayeee) if drawn out sounds very similar to the chakra vowel sounds. Whatever the tradition, the intention, awareness and consciousness of the chanter is just as important as what is being chanted. You may experiment to find the variation that creates the perfect vibration. Before you begin listening to this recording, set aside any thoughts, feelings, or distractions you may have, and find the stillness that is at the center of your being, simply observing reality AS IT IS at this moment. Allow the breath to be natural and full, unrestricted, moving deep into all areas of your body. You will begin this meditation by concentrating on the chakras; the seven energy centers that run along the spine - from the tailbone to the crown of the head, and chanting their associated vowel sounds or mantras. This practice

will awaken kundalini, the latent energy source stored at the base of the spine. Once activated, kundalini energy will move and spiral upwards in a snake-like fashion, piercing and activating each of the chakras on its ascension. Surrender and let down the barriers that keep you from connecting with this energy using strong, sustained, unshakable focus and intention. Sit with your spine upright and relaxed while simply observing, allowing the mantra to replace any thoughts and feelings that arise. After a long chant (an hour or more), you may find that deep healing starts to occur. You may require more sleep to allow the ripple effects of the chant to go deep into your being. You may also find that you are drawn towards stillness and nature. We recommend that in addition to chanting, as part of your daily practice you spend time close to nature and practice meditation.
