Assistive technology can truly benefit students with special needs that may have Cognitive or Sensory Disabilities. The app I have selected is Todo Math version 1.2.1 by Locomotive labs. This app is aimed towards K- 2ed grade. The app contains 7 multi-level games and the app follows the common core standards from kindergarten to second grade. According to the app description the app is aimed to help students with learning differences such as visual processing, short-term memory, under developed fine motor skills, LS, ASD, ADD/ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Down Syndrome. So the app covers both disabilities that were introduced above. Cognitive disabilities are usually concerted one of the most common types of disabilities so it is important that apps are avaible to aid these students. This group of learners usually has learning disabilities, emontial disabilities, and mental retardation. Students with memory problems, ADD/ADHD, and academic trouble also fall in to this category. Many educators

tend to suggest soft wear for these students that is simple to use and includes math, reading, and writing skills. Todo Math hits several of these suggestions. The app offers two different functions free choice and timed practice. This app offers several activities including math facts, a memory game, counting, traceing, and using tallies. All of these games can be change to the level that is appropriate for the student. The tracing app allows to students to practice their writing skills. Little Farm is an adding/ memory game in which animals walk in to a barn and the student has to select what animals and how many are in there. Tallies is a counting/ reading and counting game. The students need to read the number and drag figures out to show the tally amount. Sensory disabilities are often linked to blindness and deaf. Because it is an app it probably shouldnt be used for the blind but it is grate for the deaf. The direction is done through

a mini video so the student can watch and then copy it in the game. The game is also filled with bright eye catching images because the senses are heightened it will be more appealing to these students. Also all the game options in the app are both pictured and text so any level of student would be able to use it. It is also a good app for students with sensory disorders because it involves a lot of tapping and dragging which allows students to touch the screen more. It is clear to say that this app truly has a universal design for younger students. It uses core standers and was most recently updated in 2013 which means it is fairly current. Todo Math can help students with a variety of difficulties practice their math skills as well as practice reading and writing along with mathematics. Apps like this can really help aid those students that may have sensory or cognitive disabilities and help them to improve in school.
