The Geometer's Sketchpad 5.0 Checklist Check off what you can do as you learn.

These tasks are in no particular order and some of them you may not learn until later on in the year! If you have no idea how to start on a task, skip it and go on to the next one. Your goal is not to check off all the skills; just check off as many as you can. (IF you are stumped and determined to check off a task, consider using the Help menu.) After 70, you have actions that are 5.0 specific. (0-20) novice (20-40) apprentice (40-60) expert

____1. Construct a triangle. Make sure that it stays a triangle as you drag different parts of it around on the screen. ____2. Select everything using the Select All command. ____3. Select segments and points using the Selection Arrow tool. ____4. Deselect an individual object, keeping the others selected. ____5. Use the Selection Arrow tool draw a selection Rectangle and select only the objects in the same region of the sketch. ____6. Move a single object to a different position in the sketch. ____7. Draw a circle. ____8. Draw a line. ____9. Draw a ray. ____10. Label a point. Also hide its label. ____11. Label circles, lines, and segments. ____12. Move and change the label on an object. ____13. Delete an object. ____14. Hide an object. ____15. Create an angle and measure it.

____16. Make a Hide/Show button. ____17. Construct a Golden Rectangle (a rectangle whose length and width would satisfy the proportion w l . Make sure it stays a Golden Rectangle as
l lw

you drag different parts of it around the screen. ____18. Use the Text tool to display your name. _____19. Draw a line and find its slope. ____20. Calculate the radius of a circle after measuring its circumference. ____21. Change the text style of a caption. ____22. Measure the three angles of a triangle and use Sketchpad's Calculator to find their sum. ____23. Construct an angle and create the bisector of that angle. ____24. Construct a line perpendicular to another line through a point not on the line. ____25. Construct a line parallel to another line through a point not on the line. ____26. Tessellate your screen with regular hexagons. Make sure the tessellation stays intact no matter how you drag or distort it. ____27. Construct a circle. Then construct another circle that is always tangent to the first circle. ____28. Make a tool that constructs the centroid of a triangle. ____29. Create a tool that uses iteration to build a fractal. ____30. Measure the length of a segment. ____31. Animate a point around a circle. ____32. Construct an animated car that rolls down a road. ____33. Construct a square, and make sure it is always a square no matter which parts of it you drag around. ____34. Construct an equilateral triangle, and make sure it is always equilateral no matter which parts of it you drag around.

____35. Create a table of values. ____36. Add entries to the table using the keyboard, the mouse and the Measure menu. ____37. Change the length of a segment. ____38. Close a document. ____39. Size a window so that you can see two different windows at the same time. ____40. Find the midpoints of the sides of a triangle. ____41. Create a tool that draws a triangle and finds its midpoints. ____42. Use the tool you created to draw a new triangle with its midpoionts. ____43. Mark a center of rotation or dilation. ____44. Dilate a triangle using the Dilate command. ____45. Reflect an object across a line. ____46. Construct a point that traces a parabola. ____47. Make a tool that constructs a square. ____48. Trace the locus of a point. ____49. Use animation to draw a trace. ____50. Show an x-y grid. ____51. Graph the linear function y=2x+3. ____52. Graph the function y=3x2-5 ____53. Find the equation of a line. ____54. Construct the interior of a circle and shade it dark purple. ____55. Construct a polygon interior. ____56. Measure the perimeter of a polygon.

____57. Rotate an object 390 counterclockwise. ____58. Rotate an object 95 clockwise. ____59. Translate an object by a marked vector. ____60. Merge a free point to a circle. Then split the point from the circle. ____61. Use iteration to construct a Sierpinski gasket. ____62. Use parametric color to color a geometric figure. ____63. Use File | Document Options | New Page to create a multi-page document. ____64. Use a Movement button (by choosing the Edit | Action Buttons | Movement command) to move one point to the location of another point. ____65. Paste a copied image, attaching it to a point. ____66. Paste a copied image, attaching it to two points so that you can change the ratio of the base to the height of the original image. ____67. Use the New Function command to create the following function:
f ( x) x 2 4 x3 . x

____68. Iterate an object to a specified depth. ____69. Establish a parameter. Graph a function that includes the given parameter in its assignment. After the function is graphed, animate the parameter to see how the graph of the function changes. ____70. Graph the polar equation r 3 cos . On a new page graph x as a function of y, using the equation x y 2 6 y 5 . _____71. Create a custom transformation that reflects and then dilates. _____72. Find the points of intersection of the graphs y cos x and y x 2 . _____73. Perform multiple transformations on a picture. _____74. Morph a regular pentagram into a circle.

_____75. Geometrically create a parabola by starting out with a point and a line. After the parabola has been created, merge the focus to a circle. Now create the family of curves traced if you select the focus (on the new circle) and the parabola. _____76. Use the marker tool to create a piece of a function f . Then graph the function y= f (2 x). _____77. Crop a picture to a polygon. _____78. Create a sound button and access it. _____79. Use the polygon tool to create a polygon. _____80. Create points of different size using display.
