CourseRequirements Readingsareassignedforeachweek,andaretobereadbytheMondayclasswithwhichtheyare associated.Eachweek'sreadingsconsistsof:(a)chaptersfromtheSmith&Mackietext, occasionallyaccompaniedbyasupplementalreading,and(b)asetofjournalarticlesthatareto formthefocusoftheclassdiscussionandareaimedatprovidingillustrationsofcontemporary research.AlltheadditionalreadingswillbemadeavailableontheCarmenwebsite, http://carmen.osu.edu.

Gradeswillbebasedon: 1. MidtermexamcoveringWeeks25ofthesyllabusandweighted35%ofthecoursegrade. ThemidtermwillbeadministeredduringclassonNovember1. 2. FinalexamcoveringWeeks710ofthesyllabusandweighted35%.Thefinalwillbe administeredduringfinalsweek.AccordingtotheRegistrar'sfinalexamschedule,the examisscheduledforTuesday,December7,1:303:18. 3.Classparticipationweighted30%.Thisincludescontributionstothediscussionsingeneral, aswellasthediscussion(s)thateachstudentwillbeleading.Eachofthediscussionarticles willbeassignedtoastudent,whowillassumetheresponsibilityof:(a)preparingasingle pagehandoutsummarizingthereadingfordistributiontotheclass,(b)presentingabrief overviewofthearticle,(c)offeringobservationsabouttheresearch,and(d)generating issuesorquestionsforclassdiscussion.
