Notice of Marriage: Marriage can take place 15 days to 3 months after application Both the Bride & Groom must apply jointly, in person, to the Marriage Officer of the Municipality of the area in which they want to marry. -----------------------------------------Special Procedure: Marriage can take place less than 15 days after application In urgent circumstances, the Marriage Officer may agree that the marriage needs to occur sooner than 15 days after application.

A short (10-15 minute) marriage ceremony is performed by the marriage officer in the mayor's office on the agreed Date.

Once the criteria of the Marriage Notice have been met, the marriage may be performed by a registered minister of religion in church. This will have to be arranged separately by the couple planning the wedding.
Note:A Catholic ceremony is not legally binding unless you first have a civil wedding ceremony. If you have an Anglican wedding ceremony you are not required to have a civil wedding ceremony. To have an Anglican Ceremony at least one of the Bride or Groom will need to provide a Baptism Certificate. For a Catholic Ceremony both the Bride & Groom will require a Baptism Certificate.

Natalie & Craig Smith, both 31, married at Louis Phaethon Beach Hotel, Paphos in Cyprus on 27 May 2013.
We had been together 12 and a half years, when we got married. We met when I was 19 and Craig was six months younger being 18 and a half, at a nightclub in Uxbridge in November 2000. My friends knew Craig from our secondary school days but I never met him. Craig proposed on my 30th Birthday in November 2001. It was a complete surprise as I thought he was buying me a watch for my birthday. He disguised the ring as my present in a massive gift box. The ring box was huge too, me still not having a clue believing there was a watch inside. When I opened it, there he was in the Middle of the lounge down on one knee. When I asked him what he was doing, he popped the question and my initial reaction was to say no as I thought it was a Joke! Soon realising it was no joke, I obviously couldn't Stop saying YES! My engagement ring is 18-carat white Gold with a single Canadian ice cut diamond. Where did you go for your hen party? We went to Reading for my hen weekend, there was 18 of us

Where did the groom go for the stag do? Craig went to Newcastle with 11 of his friends. He then had another stag do before the wedding when we were in Cyprus. He decided it would be fun for the men to go Deep sea fishing. However, they were all extremely ill, no fishing took place and they all came back looking Green! Your Dress: My dress was a Maggie Sottero style Maude. It was Absolutely gorgeous A-line, soft shimmer satin sleeveless Gown with deep V-neck featuring a rich Swarvoski crystal Brooch adorning the design with glamour and elegance. Finished with a corset back closure. Accessories: I wore a tiara and a diamant bracelet. Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue?: Something new was my dress, something borrowed was my bracelet from my mother-in-law and something Blue was on my garter.! The Groom: Craig wore pinstripe dark navy blue trousers, white wing collar shirt, ivory waistcoat and cravat Bridesmaids & Maid of Honour: Maid of Honour and one bridesmaid wore navy blue

We chose this hotel to stay at as it was very family Orientated and had good reviews on Trip Advisor. How far in advance did you book it? We booked the hotel in June 2012 The Reception Venue: For the Reception we walked there as it was a restaurant next to the hotel How & Why did you choose it? We chose the restaurant as it had a peaceful setting on the beach with its own beach bar and a great grass area for the children to play.

We booked the restaurant in November 2012 The Food: As we were in Cyprus we opted for the Meze Menu The Music: For the reception we used our iPod, which we had a play list of favourite songs saved to. What was your first dance? I just cant stop loving you by Michael Jackson

Flowers & Dcor I had white/ cream, gerberas in the round bouquet bound with navy blue ribbon and some diamants scattered Throughout. We had navy blue chair covers for the chairs at the civil ceremony which was then taken and put on the chairs at the restaurant. Im not a very flowery person - Craig chose my bouquet for me. Describe your table centrepieces: We had 3 extra-large looking wine glasses that were filled with clear crystals, along with a few scattered blue crystals and a gerbera flower. On the table we also had scattered clear and blue crystals. Did you offer favours, if so what were they? No, we didnt have favours, instead we made it a free bar.

The Cake: In Cyprus this was a very basic round sponge cake that had a blue and gold ribbon around the outside and a cream gerbera on the top. Our main Wedding Cake was at the UK Reception

What was the best part of the day and why? I have so many heart-warming memories when I think back to one of the best days of my life. Walking back down the aisle once it was announced we were husband and wife. I couldnt have been happier. Seeing our guests faces when our surprise wedding Double Decker bus arrived was magic. The whole day was perfect. We had a slight hitch with my dress that you could see one of the lace layers at the bottom and that my hoop would not stay pinned together, but nothing that safety pin and a bit of Sellotape couldnt fix! Did you encounter any problems during the planning stages? At the beginning of January within 24 hours of each other 3 things happened: the shop where I ordered my dress went into liquidation and I didnt know if they would fulfil my Order, I had to find a new cake maker for our UK Reception and my engagement ring Broke. Luckily within the week everything was sorted. Is there anything you learned that you think is an important tip for future Wedding Couples? Definitely - arrange the day how you want it, it is after all your Wedding Day!

The Cyprus Weather

Cakes are put on display for a short time in the hot summer months so the official cake cutting and photos usually takes place after the ceremony and before the reception meal. Your cake designer understands this and will advise you on the best timings and location for your pictures.

Allow plenty of time

The best cake makers have a very busy diary and work on a first come, first served basis. Most cake makers take a deposit to reserve your date and then work with you on the design when you have all the other elements of your wedding in place. We suggest booking 6 months to 2 years in advance for the most popular dates although even if your wedding is only a month away there is no harm in asking if there is availability for you.

If you take a planning visit to Cyprus before your wedding, then take the opportunity to sample cake. A good baker will offer you a range of cake flavours, work with you on your favourites and help you with dietary needs, such as gluten free.

What size?
Tell your cake maker how many portions you need and they will advise you on the best size for your chosen design. Sponge type cakes are the most popular here in Cyprus but you decide how much you want served on the day. Many brides will keep a tier back to the next day to enjoy with closest family and friends.

One of your first decisions is whether to have a traditional tiered cake, a tall display of individual cupcakes, mini cakes or Temari (one for each guest) or a unique carved cake. Look for interesting flavours and fillings that will delight your guests.

Wedding Favour: Tie some gorgeous ribbon/ patterned paper(from your local craft store) around the jar to decorate, Pop in some yummy sweets, seeds or any type of favour you fancy. Adhere a name label or even a simple take me! Wedding Decoration: Dress the same as you would your Wedding Favour but instead of popping in some goodies, sit a scented tea light candle in the middle (tie in your theme/ colour scheme by matching in the colour of the candle.

Candle Table Numbers

We found these great candle table numbers made using tissue paper transfers from Simply Turquoise, and we just had to share!
What you will need: Embossing Gun, Wax Paper, Tissue Paper, Candle (must match exactly to tissue paper & vice versa, Permanent Pen/ Pencil/ Coloured Pen, Scissors Step 1: Smooth out the tissue paper and cut a piece to the height of the candle and draw (or trace from a print out off the computer) a number using your pen/ pencil. Tip: Pencil gives a softer look, the look pictured left was created using a permanent marker. Step 2: Trim any excess tissue paper away. Step 3: Take a large piece of wax paper (large enough to wrap around the candle). With the tissue paper on the candle, wrap the wax paper (waxy side against the number) and hold it tightly holding the ends of the wax paper around the back of the candle. Step 4: Using the embossing gun, heat the entire area of the number. The heat will slightly melt the candle and the wax from the wax paper, transferring your tissue paper number onto the candle! Step 5: Let it cool before removing. Tip: If the tissue paper lifts off with the wax paper, it didn't melt enough, try again holding the embossing gun over for longer.

You can choose one of many online companies to print one of your favourite photos onto canvas for guests to sign, or pick up a blank canvas from one of your local craft stores. if you choose a plain canvas (budget friendly option) you can dress it up by painting in a subtle tone in keeping with your colour scheme or theme, use ribbons, spray paint, or patterned paper - depending on how creative youre feeling!

A Ball for Binny

More than 1 in 3 people will develop a form of cancer in their lifetime. It is a disease that doesn't discriminate, & touches all our lives. Sadly, just over half of sufferers survive 5 or more years, & there are around 157,275 deaths per year in the UK alone. Originally starting as a Facebook group, Cyprus Brides to be was a place for ladies to discuss, share ideas, & help each other with planning their wedding abroad. However, it became more than that. The ladies became friends, confidants; an online sisterhood. Then in June 2013, one of our well-loved brides, Fleur, & her new husband, Chris, received devastating news. Chris was diagnosed with cancer. To our heartbreak, they were told the words nobody should ever have to hear. It was terminal. So the girls of Cyprus Brides to be began a new, secret group, Fleur's Friends. "Chris and I met in Nov 2008 through a single parents holiday club, so smitten was he by my northern charm he drove the 240 miles to take me out for a meal. We got engaged a few months later as we already knew then that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. We spent the next few years bombing it up and down the country to see each other, and then he finally moved up north in Nov 2010. Our Cyprus wedding in Oct 2012 was the best day of our lives. I know that sounds like a clich but it really was, marrying my best friend and soul mate. We were starting on a new chapter in our lives and couldn't wait to start to fulfil all our hopes and dreams. After only 7 months of this new chapter, things changed. Chris became poorly with a cough that he couldn't shake and after 3 weeks of tests he was diagnosed with advanced Germ Cell cancer. Initial treatment of chemotherapy at The Christie hospital showed Chris was fighting back, but our happiness was to be short lived as the cancer soon became resistant to the chemo and the prognosis changed to terminal. We made a decision then that we wouldn't waste a minute of our precious time together feeling sorry for ourselves, that's not to say we haven't cried, or cry now. Chris believes he has been dealt this hand so that someone, somewhere doesn't have to be parted from their loved ones. That someone could be a child, and I'm taking this for them he says, such is his army, band of brothers mentality. So we choose to 'live' with cancer, and we have lots of living to do. Our charity ball is our way of giving something back to all the amazing people who have helped us, our amazing family and friends, the incredible team at The Christy hospital who have looked after Chris and Cancer research UK. It is Chris' last wish that more research can be done so others can be cured of this cruel disease. Chris has had 43 years of life, and I have been lucky enough to have known and loved him for 5 years, and for that we are truly blessed." Fleur Binnington

Through this, funds have been raised in order to provide little treats for Fleur & Chris, affectionately nicknamed 'Binny'. Whether it's an anniversary cake in hospital, or for the family to go & see Wolverhampton Wanderers play, the girls have worked hard to provide the Binnington family with happy memories during the time they have left. However, the thought moved to "why stop there"? And indeed, why stop there? With so much accomplished in such short time, the ladies decided to do something that would benefit all those affected by Cancer. Now known as 'The Cyprus Ladies', they are a group of 175 (& counting!), brides & brides to be. Hosting their first event, a charity ball, which will be held on Saturday the 20th of September, 2014. It is appropriately named 'A Ball for Binny', which of course, is dedicated to Mr.Chris Binnington. All proceeds of this ball will go directly to the cancer charity or charities of Binny's choice.
